Why is it that so many seem to think that as soon as they get an M&P the first thing that they have to do is put APEX parts into it? I have no problem with APEX....why not take the money that the parts would cost you and buy more ammo and give it a trigger job one round at a time. Has worked on all 4 of mine.
My M&P .40 Full size has over 15,000 rounds down range and it just keeps on getting better and better. I have never changed the recoil spring or any magazine springs either. Seems many are near phobic about that as well. If I am having problems THEN I address it.
Just puzzles me.....

people READ and don't shoot. They're told "the trigger is AWFUL/HORRIBLE/HORRENDOUS and they dry fire it 4 times and agree. I've shot no where NEAR 15000 rounds out of my full size 40 but I think the trigger is fine. YES, if I focus on the feeling, I CAN feel the striker block engage. That's it.

I'm suppose to have someone sending me their stock striker block and I'm going to smooth it out (first gun smithing) and see what kind of an impact it makes. Other than that I think my trigger pull is down to 5 pounds and it rattles, slide doesn't line up flat, rides on my hip often enough, and still shoots great.

I think people just need to complain. Remember when they FIRST came out (MPB9XXX myself) and people said they didn't shoot straight? complaints were low and left?

Ah, the simple "15,000 Round Trigger Job."

At current pricing of maybe $300/1000 rounds that could also be called the "$4,500 Trigger Job."

Somehow spending another $4,500 on a $500 pistol fails my economic tests. Not to mention my time or wearing out the pistol. :)

its the american way to change something that is not broken. that being said I am one of those that has installed the apex kit in my 40c. I like it. I have felt the gritty feel go away and it is smooth like butter plus It did not take a thousand dollars plus in ammo to achieve this result. I agree that stock works just fine. Have you shot an M&P with the kit? there are slight differences but I think your right with a couple thousand round through stock parts they will get there eventually. Money wise I believe its cheaper to do the apex kit then the cost of ammo these days. good thought and wow you have had some fun with 15,000 rounds.:)

I am a believer in if it isn't broke don't fix it. My M&P's didn't take thousands of rounds to get there either....several boxes of ammo and the differences are amazing.
Have I fired an M&P with a kit....yes I have. Not much difference between my friends gun with a kit and my M&P .45 that had 200 rounds downrange.
My .40 FS M&P with 15K through it is used in USPSA/IDPA matches and my comment was that with that many rounds it is still getting better instead of feeling like it is worn out.

The plunger is just shaped wrong from the factory. There is no reason it should be shaped with hard edges to give the trigger the gritty feeling.

No one likes a gritty trigger, but the rest of the complaints w/ the trigger comes down to personal preference. The takeup on the trigger is a bit long and little far back for me and there is not much in terms of tactile reset.

And if you buy the MA version like i did with the 10lb+ trigger, you do you have to do things to it to get it down to an acceptable level of shootability, whether that be a trigger job or putting in apex parts.

I'm sure none of you ever put a cold air intake kit on a car, or swapped out a dvd player for blue ray, or got rid of a functioning cell phone for the latest and greatist, or purchased an upgraded map for your navi, or any other kind of upgrade to anything you own; so I understand your problems.

Some of us like to make things better because we WANT to and we CAN. We did not ask for your permission or approval, so why do you feel the need to complain about something that has no effect on you what-so-ever!

Oh well, I guess religion, glock vs M&P, and politics were getting boring.

Please feel free to continue your rant if it will make you feel better about yourself.

MA requires a 10 lb. trigger? WOW....no amount of live or dry firing would cure THAT!!

Trigger

I did mine because it felt like the end of my trigger was dragging on the drive way.

I had previously read on here that after a few rounds it would get better..........nope after 500 rds it still had 11 lbs plus pull and felt like I was dragging someone to death.

Now I think the best question would have been to ask me why in the world did I buy a pistol that the trigger felt that bad to start with ?? :) The ergonomics of the pistol felt really good to me.

Sure enough I shoot the darn thing pretty good.

I would have been thrilled to save a hundred or so but it wasn't going to happen. Seeing as how I don't sell anything it was money well spent on ole Dan.

Dan :)

Gee....maybe it's called personal preference. We have so little left we can pick and choose about anymore so to each his own. If you want to spend a couple of hundred bucks versus thousands in range time I think it's a good idea. My M&P 9MM 5"Pro Series is a bit gritty but acceptable for now. My M&P 9MM 4 1/2" barrel....well the trigger sucks donkey b#%@s from the factory....with the Apex work it is a great carry gun. :)

It looks like the question has been answered!! :) The fact is the trigger can be better and massaged to personal preferences, so why not... worked for me. :) Thank you Randy....... not you, the other one:)

It is personal preference. I come from a 1911 and Glock background. Both of which a tactile reset. My Glock triggers are all stock but have an OEM "-" connector in them. They are what I prefer on my duty weapons. The M&P trigger is not the worst I have seen by far. It does however lack a tactile reset. The take up is light, and the reset point is a bit far forward for my tastes. The APEX DCAEK & RAM give me exactly what I was looking for in the M&P. It now has a heavier takeup, and now the reset is shorter and more tactile. I now have a Glock trigger in my M&P, and it works for me. TXPO

the trigger from the factory just plain sucks, just because it works doesn't mean one should just leave it. I was going to sell off my M&P 40 because of the trigger alone. Then found out about the Apex kit. Dropped it in there and it is a whole new gun for me. Since, I have purchased a M&P 45 and immediately dropped in a new APEX kit. I love it and will be keeping both pistols. My friends felt the same way, and guess what, they got a APEX kit and will be keeping there pistols now. Bottom line is S&W should have done a better job with the trigger.

I must not be sensitive enough to feel the difference. My M&P 40 FS manages to put 'em in the 10-ring and when I fired a 40 Pro, it did the same as long as I did my part. I alternately CCW my M&P and a 4" 1911A1. Betweeen the two, there's definitely a difference in trigger "feel", but there should be in a 1911. It's your weapon, do what you want as long as you keep shooting!

I can't believe you complain about those of us that do things a little differently.

Ever shot an M&P with Apex parts? I bet not. If you did, you would understand.

I have about 200+ down range on my 45C, and the trigger has gotten better, but being a long time 1911 guy I am still hoping it gets better. I have talked to a local smith and am waiting to see what happens before I jump in with a trigger job. If I'm not happy at about 400 rounds I will take it in. At 7-10 yards I can hit at will. At 15 yards the trigger really needs to be better to perform at that distance for rapid fire.

I'm a 1911 guy. I've never cared for the stock M&P trigger. My first one was from one of the 10# trigger states. It really sucked and to this day I don't care for the factory hinged trigger. I put a Apex competition kit in it and it was much smoother feel and the lighter trigger was a welcome addition. Now on my 5th M&P, all of them have the same Apex kits in them as well as the same 10-8 sight sets. I do the same with my 1911's, same C/S trigger kit and sight sets. For me it's about consistency of feel between them.

Has anyone ever wondered why, if the the standard M&P Trigger was so wonderful, howcome the Pro Series was changed to have a superp trigger. I sold these at a local gun shop last year and was amazed at the difference in the feel of the two differnt triggers! I own 5 M&P Products and love them all, but the minute I felt the trigger on my standard 9L, I ordered the Apex dcaek and have never looked back.
As a Former Navy Shooting Team member there is nothing worse than a bad trigger! IMO Its just like some people think the Steak at Sizzler is really a great steak but until you've had one at DelMonicos you have no idea what your missing!
