Was at my LGS and they just got in some full size and compact M&P 45s. I helped a customer change the backstrap on one he was looking at and I tried the trigger. I think S&W has updated the triggers on the current production M&Ps. I tried 2 full size and 2 compacts and they had absolutely wonderful triggers. They all felt like they had Apex sears installed, very crisp without the usual takeup and gritty feeling. I thought the Shield had a good trigger but these 4 pistols I looked at today had fantastic triggers. I just wonder if these were all assembled by the same guy who really knows what he's doing, or they changed the sears in the new ones.

If it was one person, they need to make him/her the Sear Technician and they can teach others how it's done right.....
The fired case envelopes were all dated, 06/12, I forget the day date but they were all from June of this year. Even the sales person couldn't believe how great the triggers were on these 4 pistols. Next time I go back I'll check to see if the envelopes have the same initials on them. I just hope this is indicative of a product upgrade.

On another note, were you experiencing grittiness during trigger pull while the weapon was charged (with your older weapons) or were they smooth under those conditions? My MP9 FS test fired MAR 12 displays no grittiness whatsoever (while charged) during trigger push...but there is a little bit if the slide has not been racked. I'm trying to get a "feel" so to speak of this new and improved phenomena your describing.
I've owned several M&Ps since they came out and still have my first which is an M&P9c. The triggers on my M&Ps have all smoothed out with use but they were nowhere near the triggers of the M&Ps I looked at today. Even my Shield trigger isn't as good. The takeup on all 4 pistols today exhibited zero grittiness and then light, crisp breaks, all I would estimate were between 4/5 pounds in weight. I'm going back tomorrow to see if they recently received any 9s and 40s to check their triggers.

Interesting sounds like a DCAEK with factory trigger spring....is that about right?

Yep, I started a thread about this a few days ago, but I think I was a bit long winded and nobody got to the point. The new triggers are just as good as a Glock trigger, IMO, if not better.

Not as "positive" as a Glock, but the phantom reset is gone and you can clearly feel and hear the reset, very Glock like. While I still give the edge to Glock with reset, I think the S&W trigger has a crisper break, is lighter, smoother and overall better than the Glock trigger, based on the improvements to the trigger.
I'm with mag318 on the Shield trigger. Although they are better than the previous M&P's, mine has too much take-up and feels rough.
My Shield 40 case firing was 5-18-12
I heard all the M&P's were going to get the Shield style trigger as well.
I agree. I just picked up a new M&P9c with a test fire date of 6/2/12. Trigger pull is very similar to my Shield, with a distinct reset feel and sound.

I just picked up a new M&P9 with a DXU sn# and test fire date of 06/08/12. The trigger on it is nothing like the shield I shot back in April. There is no positive reset at all. I do however like the trigger, but I would say they have not started adding the new style to the 9mm line yet.

Possibly, the improved triggers I felt were on .45s, which previously had the crappiest trigger.
I went back to my LGS this afternoon and have to report the reset is exactly still like they were and you can barely feel it unlike in the new Shields. That said though they were still spectacular triggers so perhaps S&W is in transitioning to the newer Shield type using up older parts.
