has anyone else noticed this? I was looking at buying a used15T but noticed some were rather unattractive with the gray color that didn't match the rest of the lower. Specifically the Troy quadrail. Anyone know why this is? Not all of the 15T's/Troy Quadrails look this way either.

i thought all the troy rails were steel.. can it be oiled to bring the color back? not that i'm going to bathe it in oil or anything.

Get it dirty; once covered in silt and mud, it all looks the same. Then, fire it 'till extremely hot. The mud will bond to the metals, and once cleaned it will all match up just fine.

This should be considered a non-issue as visual appearance will have no effect on function. As was already posted the quad-rail looks dry and the receivers look to be coated in oil. The receivers and quad rails were manufactured and finished by different companys altogether and so the anodizing may mot match. My M&P15T's rail exhibited a slightly blue'ish tint not seen in the receivers. It was actually more noticeable in flash photography than in person. I've since swapped the stock quad-rail out for a 12" Centurion C4 rail. It too has hard anodizing that is not a 100% match to the receivers.

The Troy rails are hard anodized aluminum.

What I'd want to know before purchasing a used M&P15 is whether it's an early Stag build or in-house production rifle due to the poorly staked gas key and out of spec magazine well issues that accompanied the early Stag built M&P15's.

I see your from Michigan. That wouldn't happen to be the one from mgo, would it? I just bought a 15T from there this week, and it looked identical to that one (grip, bipod, pmag, and trijicon). If so, you passed on a steal of a deal, I gave the guy $750 (gun only), and he delivered it to me from half way across the state. The rail did look a little grayish in the picture, but in person it was fine.

you are correct, when you're ready to sell it i've got your $750 for you. It was just something I had noticed on some of the tactical models, but i didn't notice it on all of them. was just wondering if there was a reason.

I have one of the VERY first T's. I had issues with short stroking, never an issue with mag well or improper staking. Anyway, my T has an unmarked barrel from the factory now after it's last warranty trip. Funny, no markings anywhere on it. The gunsmith I talked to then said he was putting a Mossburg barrel on it from a run of rifles they were building for Las Vegas SWAT.

FWIW, I did a build with a Superior Arms lower. Talk about mag well issues. It will drop all 30 rd mags, but all 20 rd mags I try in it stick and need to be pulled out.
