M&P22 Compact

If I can't suppress it, it's not worth it. Where are the adapters?

Here's what the innards of the new Compact look like, very nicely machined slide. And here it is next to my Ruger SR-22. As you can see the S&W is bigger that the Ruger, which is why I find it to be more comfortable. Weather permitting it's off to the range on Tuesday and I'll find out if it shoots as good as it looks.

Seems like $359 was the intended price at KTP on the one I put on hold. Happily, they honored the $299 price that had been listed on their site without any fuss at all. It will be interesting to see what price goes on the next 22 compact they get in.

Anyway, I picked mine up today. Love the trigger, actually. There is a bit of take up before one reaches the place where the trigger breaks, so it will be very stageable at the range if you are in to that. The break is clean and grip free. No gauge for poundage, but it is crisp enough for me.

Intensely light. Feels almost like a full squirt gun weight wise. Cannot wait to let her rip.

(so glad I have some ammo stashed, KTP wanted $8.50 for a box of 50 hv's!)

Anyway, I think you all are gonna like these when you get a chance to check them out.

Cheers

As an aside, I have noticed a few serial numbers in online reviews with HHD prefixes. Mine, built in July, 2014, is already an HHE prefix!

Did they already make that many of these or did the "demo" models get their own prefix?

I also have a July '14 HHE - I am not saying I was the first person in the country or anything but, pretty much, other than one other person on here who I believe got theirs the same day as mine, I had not seen a single person on any forum post that they had one before me.

I am curious though, not that it really manners, but do you have some special knowledge of the serial numbers? HHD are demo models? I hadn't seen any serial number talk.

If you do a google search for M&P 22 Compact and you will find several product announcements and preliminary reviews from sites like guns.com, etc.
Several of these have photos of the gun, each of which seem to have different HHD serial prefixes with 4 digit numbers (no zeros)

My HHE was made on July 17, I think and is lower than 650.

Just curious is all. Absolutely no special knowledge of serial numbers here.

I've seen em all over the place:

Dealer cost is anywhere from $285-$299 depending on distributors.

I've seen em as low as $300-$320 & as high as $399.

Then my LGS must be selling them at a loss, because I got one today for $287.95 before taxes ($307.67 after).

How can those of us who live in restricted states get S+W's attention, regarding them making this gun available in a compliant, non threaded version?

Vote, organize and change the laws so that a firearm with as many safety devices as THIS one has are legal again.

I don't pretend to know what would keep this gun from so many states, (threaded barrel?) but iwill bet that Smith is banking on the reemergence of a situation where one, VERY safe gun design can be sold in EVERY state.

Made it to the range this hot afternoon and couldn't be more happy with the new M&P22 Compact. First off the Compact has a better trigger and much better sights than my full size. Today I shot mainly for function to make sure the pistol ran well with my stockpiled ammunition. A couple years ago I bought 2 5000 round cases of Federal Game Shok 710s which are 40grn solid copper plated bullets. I also have a quantity of the excellent CCI 40&36 grn MiniMags which run well in everything.
I started out putting 100 rns of CCI miniMags through it and of course they were flawless. I then put 100 rnds on my Federal 710s which again were flawless. Next was 50 rnds of CCI Stingers which were perfect. And last were 50 end of Walmart Federal 550 bulk which was okay except for 2 light strikes.
Again this range session was just to wring out the gun to see how it ran. I like shooting one handed offhand and was amazed at the accuracy of the new Compact. I was shooting at 10 yards and only had to make a slight windage adjustment to put her dead on. Here are some pics and remember this is one handed offhand. Next range session I'll see what it'll do over a sandbag rest.
It's hard to put into words how impressed I am with this new pistol.

Yeah, as for changing the laws in NYS, doubtful that will ever happen. We have a better chance of winning powerball. LOL Seriously though, we haven't given up trying over here. In the mean time, I have to bite the bullet until I can leave NY Im hoping S+W will come out with a non threaded version, as I would like to add this to the stable.

Why couldn't the threaded nut just be peened on or otherwise "permanently" affixed to the barrel...just like back in the days when all those evil Chinese guns with threaded barrels back in the 90's?

The new compact model is hammer fired but the mags from the full sized Walther built gun do NOT work in the new gun.

I wrote to S+W earlier today, asking that they consider making a non threaded version compact, for those states where threaded is prohibited. Already received a reply, stating the standard thank you for writing, followed with, your request is being forwarded to the marketing department management team for review and consideration. They say you don't get what you don't ask for. Im asking. LOL

One-handed offhand? Well done! Looking forward to groups off the bag.

Found one at a LGS and I'm really impressed with how well it fits my hand. Looking for more range reports before I make a decision. I'm really interested to see how it does at 25 yards from a sand bag since I may use it as a trail/kayak gun. In that setting I may be using it to take small game.

Thanks for the pictures.

As I said in another thread, my old man is a retired 34+ year city LEO, and is way way better with a pistol than I (and trust me, I would NOT admit that unless it was obvious). He goes through his little routine when we shoot together, doing the stuff he needs to do qualifying every so often, before he has fun shooting etc.

He shot one-handed free-hand w/ the M&P22C and still was taking out the center of the target like it was a Boardwalk "Shoot Out The Star" game... that's how good the accuracy is.
