I'm thinking about getting one, to complement my M&P9. Anybody have one? Comments?

I've had mine, made by Walther, for several years. I love the gun. With ammo prices in orbit, it gets shot more than any other I own.

other than weight, it's almost identical to my full size 40.
Less expensive to practice with and was an ideal way for
my wife to get accustom to them both. She is very accurate
with the 22 and has claimed it as her own.

I got mine before the Compact came out, and I bought it with the size similarity to my full size 9mm M&P's in mind. It has been a great pistol.

As with all semi-auto .22's, it needs good ammo, like 40 grn @ 1250+ FPS, and it helps to keep it clean and lightly lubed. It has a failure to feed/eject once in awhile, due more to ammo than the gun. Dealing with stoppages on a training gun is a good thing anyway, IMO.

Despite the rather large grip, it is a popular pistol for my 12-16 yo grandchildren to shoot.

Agree with CB3's comment about high quality ammo a necessity to avoid misfeeds, I like the CCI Minimags for my FS. Also, the FS mags hold two more rounds than the compact.

I have the compact version was thinking of getting full size but thinking because the slide is longer it is heavier and may not cycle as well as the compact version. I know my compact has never malfunctioned

Don't worry. The full size .22 came first and runs fine. S&W has the correct recoil springs for proper slide function. The Compact is no better.

OK.

So now the only problem is, in finding one.

"Out of Stock" everywhere I look.

I'm pretty sure the gun is out of production, so that's going to challenge your ability to find one in stock.

Love the full size M&P 22! It is a great training aid if one shoots a M&P center fire. Good luck finding one, seems like everything has dried up. I shoot mine a good bit, functions well with all sorts of ammo. Has the occasional hiccups, but one can expect that with rim fires. I don't care for the thumb safety and I really wish Apex would come out with a trigger for it. Only because I run Apex triggers on my full size center fire for competition. But all in all, I like it lot.
