M&P22 "life expectancy" how many rounds???

Bought my M&P .22 about a year ago and have most likely run 1,500 rounds through it. I bought it because I also own a full size M&P 9mm and wanted to practice with less expensive ammo. It's VERY picky however with ammo but runs flawlessly with CCI mini mags or Remington Golden Hollow Points. Any other type of target .22 ammo usually won't eject after being fired about every other round.

Love the way the trigger feels similar to my M&P 9mm plus I can use the same holsters. One more downfall to mention, I wish that S&W would make white two-dot rear sites to fit the M&P .22 so the sights would be the same as the 9mm. I know some folks have used the steel sights from the 9mm but I was cautioned by S&W Customer Service NOT to use them as they could damage the aluminum slide.

With so many people asking in these forums for two-dot sights, why can't S&W make one for us? Thanks for letting me vent a little. I really do like this gun and consider it a "keeper!"

With a little filing and patience on the front dovetail (on the sight and not the slide, of course), the regular M&P works just fine. I've done it to mine and a friends, and although you can't adjust elevation any longer, it's dead-on when done correctly.

Takes some patience, about $30, and about an hour. You can do the second one in about 30 minutes once you're over the shyness of filing it. ;)

How Many Rounds can an M&P22 handle

I've probably fired between 3000 and 5000 rounds through mine.
Except for the rear sight blade popping out (I found it and reinstalled it)... I've never had a problem.

I use CCI Mini Mags...
CCI AR Tacticals (the best in my opinion)...
and Federal AM22 ammunition.
I clean the gun carefully after each use.

I see no sign of wear anywhere on the gun, and as long as it's kept VERY clean.... no problems whatsoever.

Friend has had one for over 10 years and figures he and his kids shoot 1500 to 2000 rounds a year through it ..

Will last several life times .. if properly maintained !!

Walther's P22 has been around long enough to know that at 40-50k it will fail.

Everything has a breaking point. I've had a 10/22 break a bolt and 22/45 break the bolt stop pin.

I say don't worry about it until it does. It appears to be a more robust design thd the P22 and SR22 but time will tell.
