M&P22 range report

I got the new M&P22 to the range today. I had two failures to fire out of about 120 rounds. One I am sure had a rounfd in the chamber that did not go off, the other may have been a light round that didn't feed a round (empty chamber). I attribute both of these to the Winchester Xpert hollowpoint ammo I was using. I am very happy with the gun. I like the weight, the way it feels in my hand and the trigger is wonderful.


I am now in the market for a suppressor. The gun store attached to the range is offering a Tactical Solutions suppressor for $200 or maybe a bit less. I would still have $39 for the adapter and the $200 transfer tax to the Government. (Plus sales tax.)

That is nice, I bet with a suppressor they are whisper quiet. how much is the permit to get the suppressor? I heard they can be expensive.
I get the FTF too, its easy to tell the weak rounds and some times they just dont have enough to get the slide all the way back.
Other than that its a great/fun gun to shoot isnt it?

As I said, the total (assuming Tactical Solutions) would be suppressor $200, Tax $200, Adapter $39. Total $439 plus sales tax. Some suppressors cost $400. Larger caliber suppressors cost more yet. I am paying $1400 (plus $200) for a Gemtech G5-T for my AR. The wait is about 5-6 months for the government to give you the OK. You also have to notify them if you take it out of state.

I guess I didn't put it all together sorry. Sounds like a good time once you get it. I assume the $200 tax is the govt part for paperwork and stuff?
Are you able to or do you need to clean the suppressor? I would assume junk builds up in them.

You are buying an actual tax stamp for the $200. I comes attached to one copy of your paperwork and must be retained as long as you have the NFA item. The processing time runs around six to seven months currently. You need to check your local state and area laws to make sure you can own legally where you live. For now, you need to get the forms signed by the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in your jurisdiction unless you want to form a trust. The sign off is supposed to go away in the near future.

There are several suppressor designs. Gemtech and a few others have owner serviceable 22 suppressors. I'm about to send my Gemtech Outback to Gemtech for upgrade to the latest style that can be disassembled for cleaning. Some say that suppressors don't really need cleaning but they will clog after a lot of use. The 22 round is pretty dirty and the build up is quicker than center fire rounds.

The Tactical Solutions suppressor can not be disassembled. To clean it, you need to fill it with solvent. I was told spraying oil beforehand in it may make the deposits less likely to stick.

I took the pistol to the range again today and fired 60 rounds with the Winchester. I had several failures to eject. I tried 10 rounds of CCI Blazer and that worked fine. I am almost out of the cheap stuff. I keep Blazer for my Kimber rimfire adapter on a 1911 frame. The pistol is a hoot to shoot and I think I talked someone else into getting one.

I have a Huntertown Arms Gaurdian 22 suppressor on mine, people next door don't know I'm shooting.

Had it about 4 months running remington bulk no problems so far.

I just picked up a m&p22 and have been using Cci std velocity ammo with suppressor. I have had 0 malfunctions. I do hate the sights but I will be fixing that. The gun is very quiet and performs better than my Sig 226 .22 that I just got rid of.

Also you do not have to ask permission to travel out of state with a suppressor. It only applies to Sbr's and Mg's.

And all of my wait times have been around 3 months are less. If you want a great suppressor I suggest you look into these. I doubt you will find any better.

The Sig Mosquito has a reputation for being very finicky about which ammo you shoot, but with a suppressor it'll eat anything. That Huntertown Arms Guardian suppressor looks like one that will come apart.

The dealers say the ones that come apart are "better". If so, why even make suppressors that don't come apart???? After taxes, any suppressor I buy will have cost me more than the gun I put it on. Also they are hard to resell and you will never recover your total investment. Compare that to almost every other gun I have bought and sold, I sold the gun for as much or more than I had in it.

Yes suppressors will make a your pistol more dependable due to back pressure. The downside to back pressure is your gun will get dirty faster. Which is why to find good ammo. The CCI std velocity works great. It doesnt abuse the gun, fairly clean, and stays subsonic which is important with a suppressor.

You do not buy a suppressor to resale. Unless you like paying another $200 to transfer it to someone. That is why you buy a nice can. Its like buying a nice scope. A good one cost more than the rifle! But I can say buying a suppressor is worth the money and the wait! They make shooting much more user friendly. I can break out a .22 rifle, pistol anywhere and shoot and no one is the wiser unless they see me.

Most of the higher end companies do offer servicable cans. My first can was a sealed 9mm can. I ended up getting it made servicable. When it got opened up they got out over 5 oz of build-up out of it!
