I have a chance to buy a new M&P22 unfired with case and paperwork and all original packaging for $300. Also included are 2 additional magazines. First, is this a good deal? I'm thinking it is, but want to make sure. Second, are the safety mechanisms the same as the other M&Ps? The thumb safety feels different to me. I went by my LGS and tried another M&P22 and it felt the same as the gun I'm looking at buying, but still different from my other M&Ps with a thumb safety.
Thanks,
Tony

$300 is a good price, best price I can find is $300 new with two mags.

As for the safety, not sure about it. If it is stock, it is what it is, not sure what "different" means. I took the thumb safety off my M&P22. My M&P 9 doesn't have a thumb safety.

Actually, it's a total of 3 mags. The one that comes with the gun and 2 additional.

All the M&P22s I've tried have felt the same. It seems to me the thumb safety on all the other M&Ps have a very defined on/off thumb safety where the 22 is less defined. Sort of "mushy".

My M&P22s safety also feels a little different from my M&P40c. It's a little stiffer and doesn't feel like it's in exactly the same place. The difference might be because the M&P22 is manufactured by Walther.
As far as $300 being a good deal for an unused M&P22 with 3 mags? YES!!! The mags alone could bring $50 each these days.

Nice find for that price. You can get extra magazine at Midway USA for $26.99. Ceaper when they are on sale. The $50+ per mag are long gone. Between my wife and I , we have 16 magazines. The more magazines you have loaded, the more range time you get. And you will want to shoot the 22 a lot. Enjoy. Almost forgot, Post pics when you get it. Everyone here loves pics.

Midway USA is out of stock on both 10 and 12 round M&P22 mags. 12 rounders expected back in stock 11-15-14 and the 10s are overdue. The M&P mag drought is not over.
Still nice find OP.

Very good deal for $300.

The thumb safety is similar, but not an exact match for the full-size and compact M&Ps.

The main difference is in the overall feel. This is caused by a couple of physical differences. The M&P22 safety pivots on the its own pin located in front of the rear frame roll pin, while the compact and full-size M&P safeties pivot on the frame roll pin itself. This makes the movement of the 22 safety much more abrupt - the lever is effectively shorter. The second difference is in the mechanism that gives the safety two distinct positions. Full size and compact M&Ps use a spring a detent which provides a nice positive and smooth safety lever movement, while the 22 uses a U-shaped spring clip that just can't provide the same feel.

It's close enough so that someone familiar with either pistol will instinctively apply the right movement to engage or disengage the safety, but not identical.

The MP22 is a Walther single-action .22 that looks like an M&P. It needs the safety, because it does not have the trigger drop safety of the American M&Ps.
If you take the safety off the MP22 and drop it, it may fire.
