i have found that my new M&P22 does something that baffles me. It will fail to extract the first round fired, but after the slide is racked, it will run the rest of the magazine with no problems. This does not happen with every mag, but has increased in occurrence since the gun was new, I've had it four days now. I have aprox, 300 rounds through the gun. I have tried altering the ammount of rounds in the mag with the same results. Everything else about it is great. It is always the first round this happens to. Anybody have any ideas? Just seems odd that this is a pattern that doesn't change.
Thanks.

Are you loading the first round from the magazine or by hand and then closing the slide on it?

Try some CCI Blazer in it. I had a few of these, not just on the first round. They may be just light loads that fail to completely operate the slide. As I shoot the gun more and it gets broken in I am seeing less and less of this.

Yes, I am loading from the magazine, I usually pull the slide back and release it rather than using the slide release. I do hope this clears up as the gun is really a fine piece of work to use.

I have experienced the same issue and I field stripped it and found the rod that holds the mag release button to be pushed down and acts like a spring and not catching the magazine fully when inserted. See manual for pictures in section how to switch mag release button to see what I am talking about. I had to take needle nose pliers and pull up on the rod to latch in section of mag release button and works great now. Mag should fit high and tight with no play. Button should feel resistance to release mag.

Seems that I may have an ammo problem. I have ran probably 400+ rounds through now, and still had problems. I was using Federal bulk 550 pack which is my favorite plinking and paper punching ammo. It seemed thee more I shot the worse the problem got. I tried 100 rounds of Winchester lead nose and not one problem. Back to the Federal, same problem. I believe that some rounds of this brand actually are hard to extract for this gun. Then I thought about having ran this much ammo and not cleaned the chamber except for running a bore snake through the barrel. My bore snake needs new brass wire, it's pretty wore down. I cleaned it well with a standard brass brush and went out and ran one mag of the Feds thought it without a problem. I quit with that success, no wanting to face failure again. Could this be an ammo problem, a cleaning problem or combination. I have not had any problems with Federal ammo in any .22 I own to this date. Also, could it just be breaking in? Do chambers need break in time?

Federal 550 is one of my favorites too, and have little if any trouble with it in any of the dozen or so 22's I have. You might just have to chaulk it up to your M&P not liking it so well, and move on.

My favorite ammo is the CCI Blazer, it's cheaper than Federal 550 (deals with shipping online usually save me about 32 bucks per 5000 rounds). It feeds perfect in all my pistols, has a coated round nose lead bullet.

I had a 22 pistol that I felt the hollow point of the Federal were causing feed issues (Berreta Neos), but it could have just been the weak magazine springs not getting the next round all the way up.

It almost seems as tho the Federals swell up (not every one) and then eject very weakly. I can tell when the problem will happen just by watching the ejected round. After I cleaned the chamber I ran six rounds and they all worked. Will put more through it later. Thanks for the comment.

I had the same problem. Bought the 550 round pack and shot them all my first time at the range. Did you try the mag release rod the other guy talked about? I might try that. If I tried using the slide release it would cause the first round to jam and not go into the chamber. I had to manually use the slide. Kind of weird.
