Newest addition to my collection and my very first 45acp firearm is an M&P45 4.5" Barrel

I was mulling over an HK45 to go with my HK P2000 9mm but decided to give the M&P a shot.

I am wondering if the 14-round magazines are worth the money/ reliable for serious uses like home defense or are there issues?

Anyone know of the best/cheapest place to buy them?

I have 2 of the 14 round extended mags they function just as well as the 6 other 10 round ones. Never had a FTF with my 45FS.

Clean them every so often, especially after a range trip. Followers don't like foreign material between them and the inside mag wall.

Makes you think you are shooting a 9MM with seemingly unending supply of boolits. ;) Not really, but that is fun at the range, and the added weight cuts down on the recoil, not that there is an objectionable amount normally.

For home defense I leave a 10 round mag in, don't think I gain an advantage with 4 more rounds, and I really bought them for fun at the range.

I have a couple of them. They function fine, but they add a huge length to the overall grip size (enough to get a double grip on the grip area alone...). Almost like having a bipod on it. I have them for range entertainment only. I would never carry it on my hip with a 14 rounder in it.

No problems with mine. I bought it at Greg Cote, LLC. If I remember correctly, it was $24.95.

I have the same gun m&p .45 with 4.5 inch barrel. I found a real good price on mags and ordered a couple of the 14 round mags along with the 10 round mags. They all shot perfect for me. They were factory s&w mags and you could get the 10 round or 14 round for the same price. Counting shipping I paid $78 bucks for 3 mags. I ordered 2 sets (3 - 14 rounds and 3 - 10 rounds). Those extra couple shots make a difference when at the range.

Echoing many above, I have four of the 14rnd'ers, 3 from Quantico and one from Brownells. The best prices were at Quantico.

I have used them on two different M&P .45s and they function w/o a problem. On my Glock's I'll often carry the next size up (CCW a G30 and use a G21 as a reload, etc.). But due to the larger size of the 14 round M&P, I'm not sure it is practical (based on my size, etc).

I also just had a good experience buying Glock mags from 44Mag.com, good prices and speedy delivery. They carry M&P mags, but are out of stock, but might be a place to check when you are ready to buy.

Stay safe
