I bought a new full sized M&P 2.0 in 9mm a few weeks ago. Because of work and weather, I've only got a little under 150 rds through it. Overall, GREAT gun, so far anyway!
I'm coming to the M&P line from Glocks. I've been using various Glocks at my Police Department job since not long after I started in 1991. All worked fairly well, but as I get older, I'm getting tired of fairly well and want very good, if not great. I've always LOVED the ergonomics of the M&P line and thought they fit my hand VERY well. However, the squishy, mushy, inconsistent triggers really turned me off. The Sheriff's Department in our County carried older M&Ps in .40 and, overall, they really like them and haven't had any real trouble with them. Also, I bought a 9mm Shield not long after they first came out and think it is a GREAT off duty gun, so I thought I'd give the full sized 2.0 a try.
For me, the M&P is very ergonomic and feels great in my hands. MUCH better than the Glocks, although I have adapted to Glocks over the years. I initially thought the grip texture would be a too much, but I've changed my opinion a little. After shooting it, I think the texture is pretty good. I may still tone it down a little so that it won't abrade expensive polyester duty shirts, but it works VERY well for keeping the gun anchored in your hand.
I really like the trigger. When I dry fired the counter gun at the gun store, it was REALLY smooth! When I got mine home, it was pretty gritty. However, after the live fire and some dry fire, it is smoothing up nicely and I honestly think it will end up as good as the counter gun at the gun store. Coming from Glocks, I really like the feel of the trigger, too. Light takeup, a well defined wall, a crisp break (for a poly framed gun, anyway), some minor overtravel, then an audible and tactile reset. Very Glock like, which works well for me with all my experience with Glocks.
Overall build quality is very good. The machining in the slide only shows just a very few, very minor tool marks on the bottom of the slide rails. No evident tool marks anywhere else and the machining seems very clean. The molding on the poly frame was also very clean with no obvious mold marks or flashing anywhere I could find.
Overall, I really like mine and think it is an outstanding gun. Provided mine proves reliable (since I don't have many rounds through it right now), it will replace my Glock 19 as my duty gun at my PD job. I think S&W did a very good job with the 2.0 upgrade and really hit it out of the park. There may be some guns with better individual features (although I've never shot one, the Walther PPQ is reputed to have a better trigger, for example), but for available accessories, the M&P only comes in second to the Glock. I had trouble finding basketweave duty holsters for most of the other choices, for example, so I chose the M&P. I think it was a good choice and it should serve me well for many years. Give the M&P 2.0 a try. I think you'll like it.
