Took my new M&P 9 to the range for the first time this weekend. I had 3 FTE within 63 rounds, the the third FTE empty casing is still stuck in the chamber! The gun is locked up and I cannot retract the slide.

A visual inspection shows no signs of any damage. I'm sending the gun to S&W for repair.

Hopefully they can fix it...the few rounds I did get off were accurate and a pleasure to shoot.
BTW, S&W is sending me 2 4lb. packages...no idea what they are? A new gun??

First, WELCOME!
You didn't mention whether the ammunition you were using were reloads, or factory? Also if factory, what brand/weight of/type of bullet and cartridge material they were constructed of? More info will = more answers.

First suspects certainly includes ammunition.
What were you using?

BTW, I usually tap out stuck cases with a rod. About the third time I have to do this for somebody, I DQ their ammo and tell them to clean their gun and buy different ammo.

You don't mention the brand of ammunition. It's quite possible that the failures to extract (FTE can mean extraction or ejection-there are important differences) were due to slightly oversized cases forced into the chamber during the loading cycle. As a previous poster noted, a brass rod can be used to drive the case out of the chamber. A suitable brass rod (5/16 inches in diameter) should be part of your shooting kit.

If you're using reloads-whatever the source-buy a cartridge gauge (about $10) and run every round through the gauge. If it doesn't fit the gauge, it probably won't gun in the gun. If you want to be belt and suspenders safe, run every round you're going to shoot through the gauge regardless of source.

The gauge will pay for itself by separating out rounds that are outside specification. When you get a full box, take them back where you bought them and demand a refund.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I was using factory ammo. The first 2 failures to extract were "Blazer Brass" 115 gr FMJ. The third failure to extract was Cor Bon DPX 115 hollow point.

Even if the case were stuck in the chamber, the slide should retract, should it not? I have no idea how S&W will disassemble this gun with the slide locked up.

Hopefully S&W will take care of me without beating the crap out of my gun.

The extractor is hooked over the case, holding the slide closed. The case can be tapped out with a rod. It's not that hard to do, once you know how. We clear guns at the range routinely.
