Im about to step into the m&p line. I have a glock 19 gen4 and looking to switch to the m&p 9 for Ccw. I'm leaning towards the compact model. I have a quick question though. I know it's a 9mm and recoil isnt much buy does the compact have more, less, or same recoil as the full size?

Thanks

The compact is a bit more "snappy". Either gun is good for carry. It comes down to personal preference and what feels best in the holster system of your choice.

Smaller guns are always more recoil than full size versions of the same gun. But you can control that with ammo selection and the M&P has some amazing ergonomics with the different grip options. I shoot my M&P40c with the midsized grip and love 180gr bullet ammo in it. But if you demand the hotest loads with the smallest gun, then you don't get something for nothing. A 9c with standard pressure 125gr 9mm ammo should be very managable.

Interesting points made.. I was watching a few YouTube vids oh people shooting the full size and it seems like the gun doesn't even kick at all. Perhaps they have great recoil management b.c the slide/gun just moves back and forth with ease. The hands don't move.

How much bigger is the full size compared to the glock 19 gen 4?

The M&P full size is really not much bigger than a G19 and you get two more rounds. I was thinking about a G19 and just last weekend rented one at the range. Long story short I just liked the M&P better and don't see a need for a G19 because of the minimal size difference. I do not have a 9c but my full size conceals fine in a MTAC holster.

As well as mine and they are Cheaper from Midway than Comp-Tec where I bought mine!

I dont know why I didn think of this but I DO have the m&p22. LoL
I'm goin to carry this for he next couple of days in my remora holster for the glock 19. It fits in there perfectly. I'll get a better gauge as to if I want toget the full size for ccw or if I think it's too big to carry.

Thanks all

I have both the full size and 9c. There is a small difference in the recoil. Not that noticeable and certainly not affecting accuracy. I find that the full size is too big for me to carry concealed, but the 9c is perfect. Let us know what you think after toting around the 22 for a couple days.

Well after carrying the 22 for half the day, I can say that it's not bad but for sure the m&P I buy will NOT have the thumb safety. It's fine while standing and walking around, but sitting down it digs into me a little more than I want. Also I think the way I carry, when i sit, the grip hits against the back of the seat thus making it a little uncomfortable. I'll try a different carry angle and see how that feels first.

The recoil all boils down to the old "equal and opposite" reaction of physics. All 9mm ammo, with the same powder load, will recoil about the same. The more mass you have between your bullet and your hand will absorb more recoil. The "felt" affect will be less recoil in your hand, due to the fact that the gun absorbed some of the recoil. This is why it is so uncomfortable to shoot the subcompact guns, because there is less mass.

I ended up Shooting the m&p9c at the range. I like it a lot enter than my glock 19. I'm going to go with the 9c bc it's going to be easier to carry and conceal. I may pick up a full size for HD use

I have owned both the FS and compact 9s for over two years and fire both fairly regularly. I have arthritis in my hands but can honestly say that neither of them give me problems and I haven't felt any noticeable difference in recoil when going from one to the other. I carry the 9c and keep the FS in a bedside holster for home defense.

That's exactly what I'm thinking of doing. Getting a full size either 9 or 40 for my bedside.

I edc the .40 pro in a desantis speed scabbard. The only time I notice it might be on long drives in a bucket seat. I just bought the wife the 9c that comes with one 12 & one 17 round mag w the extension sleeve. The sleeve doesn't bite the hand like the G26 extensions did, and feels just like a FS in hand. I may have to pick up a .40c in this config for longer drives. Paired up with the "short barrel" Gold Dots should make either the 9 or 40 an effective stopper.

Yup that's the rounds that I'm using. Speer gold dots.
But that's another debate I don't want to get in to. I just ordered my 9c. It should at my ffl on WED. I can't wait! I also have 2 extra mags making a total of 4 and all 4 will have the pinky extension. I also ordered 2 holsters. Thinking of picking up the tlr-3 for home defense as well.
