I just purchased an m&p9c online and am curious as to what year it was made as well as what I can do to improve it to be as good as the newer ones. The serial # hsm71xx. Can I buy newer M&p parts for it? Thank you.

Did you get the box? The box will have the date code. Otherwise, you'll need to call S&W.

I wouldn't sweat the build date, mines OG and it's been a great pistols.

What you have is "as good" as any of them.
About the only improvement I can think of for a 9c is an Apex sear and Talon grip wrap. (Both are aftermarket.)

I don't even think the Apex sear is needed. I have a 2016 MP9C and the trigger is perfect. Crisp reset and I'm guessing about a 5-6lb clean trigger break. Only concern is trigger getting too light after more rounds through it...as it is a carry pistol; I do not want too light of a trigger pull.

Both my 2016 MP9 FS and MP9C have nearly identical triggers, unlike my Shield's garbage trigger when compare to the other MP.

My carry gun has a 3.5 pound trigger pull. I may even lighten that up.

If you bought a new one from a dealer it should be from the current year. I would wait until the gun arrives to think about upgrades, clean it lube it and shoot it, that would give you an idea of what you like and what don't. All my m&p have apex trigger kits on them, IMO the m&p trigger has a long pre travel, and reset, that's the main reason I went with apex. enjoy yours I had a 9c and loved it might get another one day.

Before you start"improving" anything shoot it! A LOT!!!! Buy ammo, buy mags, buy more ammo, and then when you have done that buy some more ammo followed by ammo! Get the idea?

Parts can be changed at any time. Ammo is going to disappear shortly and quickly. It will be back but probably at a higher price. Buy now!

My M&P 9c was built in '13. Four other shooter have shot it and agree with me that it has a great trigger( as it came from the factory). Arik's advice is spot on; shoot, shoot and shoot some more. :D

My really old 9c has the smoothest m&p trigger ever, no reset but I don't care about that.

Thanks guys just bought mags online I think I'll get it this Thursday. It is used an the first number is 7 which made me think 2007. I'll definitely mess with it first see how it compares to my shield. Any other input is appreciated.

You can get the manufacture date with the serial # by giving S&W a ring.

There should also be a 6 digit number on the case indicating MM/DD/YY.

Looka the end of the trigger bar and see if it's stamped with an "S" or an "H" "H" is newer.

Mine is a 2013 and like said a fine shooter. The trigger is no problem and to me just great. You will soon know when you get it in hand. Congratulations on the 9C.

There should be a sticker on the blue case. The 6 numbers should be above the word "Model"
