i just picked up a 9c over the weekend and it is not disengaging the slide from lock open by pressing the slide lock. it drops fine if you rack the slide. but damn near impossible to manipulate with your thumb. i have a f/s 9 and it works flawless. is it from the tension of the smaller, tighter recoil spring???? i need some insight.

That's because it's not an actual slide release. It is, as you have even mentioned, a slide lock to lock open the slide only. You are supposed to grab the slide and pull it back to release the slide lock.

There was even a thread here somewhere about someone even breaking their slide lock tab because they were using it as a slide release. :(

So, I would advise to use only the slide to release the slide lock so it doesn't break. :)

HTH,
Mat

Good advice Matt... Pee....give it some time, it will loosen up enough to release, but it is still best to use the slide..

Thanks Jack, but I got the advice from you in that last thread. LOL :D I just thought I'd pass along the good advice is all. :)

it doesnt specify either way..it is loosening a bit. i own several autos and dropping from slide lock was never this difficult. the practice is still used in training by some respected individuals though they do agree racking the slide does feed more positively. thanks

This was one of the first things I noticed with my new 9c. I had previously rented and fired a full size 9 at my local public range, and the slide release works as you described -- flip the lock while the slide is back and it will rack forward and you're ready to go. Not so with the new 9c. Sounds like this must just be a function of wear on the slide lock? (And not the 9c vs. the 9)? That rented 9 probably had 1000's of rounds through it...
