Picked up my brandy new compact last night. So what is this "tool" that's in the grip ? The instructions say...give it a quarter turn in either direction and pull it out. How hard is it to turn. Mine moves about an 1/8 of an inch and then locks up tight. I don't want to break the damn thing.

Just get tough with it. After the first time out it will be easier. I thought the same thing but neither of mine broke. They both come out easier now. I had to use pliers on one of them the firsr time.

Thanks deanodog !! I'm always afraid I'm gonna break something being the 155 lb bruiser that I am

I discovered that I can reach my pinky finger in there and use my fingernail to move the disconnect lever with my fingernail and I never take the tool out anymore...Try it..

I've got skinny little fingers so I'll give it a try.

Unless you are going to change the backstrap, you will never need to take the tool out. I just use a small screwdriver to reach in and push the lever down.

I used a leather work glove and you just have to turn it hard a full quarter turn and then pull it out. It will get a little easier, but once the curiosity wears off, I don't use it at all. Instead, I push down the sear release lever with a Bic pen or a pinky finger or something else. Much easier.

I use a ball point pen to push the sear lever down. It works better then the supplied tool.

John!

I got it out, changed the backstrap, pushed the little pin down and put it back in. It will remain there for eternity

Now ! What about that little pin ? This is the only auto I have that requires this during takedown. Just what does it do ? Of course, on reassembly, it doesn't get mentioned. I just put the slide back on and racked it a few times, put the mag in and it was back in position. I'm getting good at this stuff.

I know that the little pin releases something so that you don't have to pull the trigger like you do on the Glock for disassembly.

If you don't have pliers, I've seen people use the edge of a table to help turn the little tool its quarter turn. As for me, when I bought the pistol, before I paid for it, I made them take the tool out. That way, if they break it, I don't buy it.

They don't describe flipping the little pin up on reassembly because the magazine will do it for you.

Thanks ! I've never owned a Glock. This has something to do with the sear. It's all Greek to me !! As long as it goes off when I pull the trigger each time, I'm good.

What's the significance of the rooster avatar if I may ask ??
