M&P9L-discontinued?

I wanted to buy a competition pistol and was thinking about a Glock but I really like my M&P9 and I upgraded the trigger to an Apex with the plastic trigger so I won't be able to use that for the SSP matches. Then I saw a M&P9L for under $500 and scooped it up instead of a Glock. I didn't want to get the pro because of cost and I am going to change out the springs with the Apex competition kit without the trigger. But I find out that S&W discontinued this model. Does anyone know why they did?

I have a 9L that is the LE version. It came with night sights and 3 magazines. They're still making this version, but it doesn't show on the S&W website.

It was discontinued back in 2011 or so and replaced with the Pro 9.
