M&P's

I have 2 early M&P 5 screw 38's. One 4" and one 6". The serial#on the 4" is C 117XXX, and the 6" is 547XXX. Not sure what the "C" stands for on the 4". I'm looking for birthdates on the two, and what the "C" might stand for on the 4". Any Help?

The "C" series of serial numbers for M&P revolvers began in 1948. A C117XXX probably dates to around 1950. A 547XXX number dates to around the mid 1930s.

When they made over one million of the M&P revolvers, they began using a letter as the first part of the serial number. This number can be a V, S, C, or D and then they went to a number in front of the letter such as 1D, 2D, etc until the 1980s when a new serial number using three letters and numbers was introduced.
