I have a 16-4, 6" that shoots about 5" high at 25 yds even with the rear sight all the way down. To my thinking, this should be fixable with a taller front sight. I'm thinking a front sight blade for a 4" 16-4 would do the trick but I haven't been able to locate one. By my calculations, installing the shortest available rear sight won't provide enough of a change.

Before any of you suggest "It's the shooter" I did have a buddy get the same results. Happens off bags and standing. I Also tried faster and lighter bullet handloads with the same results. I think I've evaluated the obvious variables.

I checked Numrich, Brownell's and Jack First. I haven't called S&W yet; maybe I should grit my teeth and do that.

Can any of you recommend a source for a factory part? Or are there aftermarket suppliers I might consider? Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Krogen

I'd check with S&W customer service or parts, there are rear sight blades of different height.

#19144 is 0.146 height & white outline, 19145 blue
#19146 is 0.126 height & white outline, 19147 blue
#19148 is 0.160 height & white outline, 19149 blue

part numbers are for kits with all necessary parts.

0.020 inch change should provide a change of close to 4 inches at 25 yards, If you've got the tallest rear sight, you should be in business.

I don't see a separate front sight in the parts catalog. Piece of 1/8 plate and shape to fit.
