M28 Purchase

I know this is my 1st post but I've been reading and visiting for some time, I apologize for not introducing myself but I can do that now.
I live in Central MO, a retired CPO (USN) with 23+ years (USN, USA, and USAR). Married for over 30 years (to the same girl, I hope she keeps me around) 2 great sons and DIL's and best of all Grandpa (PA) to 3 wonderful grandbabies.
The reason I'm posting is I saw a 4" M28 listed locally for $300.00, I offered $250.00 and the seller said fine. I haven't looked at it yet and from the photos it looks like it might have some hard miles on it. But I figure if it locks up solid it's worth the $$$. If I get it I'll post pics but I figured I better not seeing how it's not mine. Hopefully Tuesday I'll post some pics.

If you got a M28 for $250.00 that locks up and times great, you got a great deal no matter what it looks like. Mod 28's are built like tanks - they'll shoot any .357 ammo you put in it and say "thank you, sir, may I have another." If I saw a M28 local to me for $300 I'd sprain my shoulder reaching for my wallet.

That is what I thought too. I figure even if I "have to" re-blue it I'd still have less than $400.00 in it. It's a 4" which is a plus, I've got a 6" 629 and it's just a little too long.

You got a great deal. I found one in a local pawn shop coupla weeks ago that wouldn't even lock up and they wanted $400.00. Somebody else can have that one. Congrats on your find.

Welcome to THE forum! If you do not take that M28-2, let me know where it is! For $250 you did yourself proud! I would be willing to bet it will lock up tight, and heck if it doesn't take it to a gunsmith. Geez, that is a great find! Congrats!

NO, STOP!!! Put down that Model 28 and step away from it before someone gets hurt! Don't even think about re-bluing it until we all can see some pics. Then WE'LL decide if it gets reblued!!

Thanks all. I've been lurking for sometime but figured I should post about my good fortune. I haven't gotten it yet but Tuesday we're supposed to meet. I don't think I can go wrong for the price.

I have a 27-2 with a 6" barrel now, but sorely miss a 28-2 4" I owned years ago and sold off. Hot 125 grain .357's were VERY controllable in that gun. A pure joy to shoot.

Thanks again guys. I got it this morning (sorry no pics yet) it has some pretty bad pitting on the side plate and cylinder, but it locks up tight as a drum and the bore is very good. The seller is a member here and we had a very nice visit. I haven't shot it yet but hopefully tomorrow I can get to the range. I got some Federal factory ammo (158 SJP) mainly for the brass and I've got to get some dies, a mold and some more brass.
