Motana for now
On the 4" M28 in good using condition, not a collectors pice with box or special grips and such. With no damage but with normal wear,
worn bluing ect.

On P&R versions at what point does the different versions as in 5 screw, 4 screw or 3 screw change the price?

I am getting interested in the 4' M28 4 screw guns and wondered how the price of a 4 screw gun compared to a 3 screw version -2.

I have seen the M28-2, 3 screw in the $500 to &600 range. To get a 4" 4 screw how does it compare in price?

I would prefer a 4 screw over a 3 screw version. Of course if I could find and afford a 5 screw that would be even better.
But I would guess a 5 screw (that would be a pre 28?) would be a lot harder to find and quite a bit more costly.

So I guess what should I expect to pay for a 4 screw M28 in decent using condition?

Thanks VM,

I may be off on my understanding of 4 & 5 screw differences.
The one in the classifieds is a 4 or 5 screw?

I was thinking that the 4 screw has the screw at the top of the side plate close to the rear sight and the 5 screw has one there and in front of the trigger guard, then the 3 screw would not have either of these screws.
Am I off on my understanding?

You're just a tad off. The four-screw has one in front of the trigger guard, not at the top of the side-plate.

Allen,
The 5 screw has a screw at the top of the sideplate, and one in the front of the trigger guard.
A four screw has one in the front of the trigger guard, but no screw at the top of the sideplate.

Best,
Gary

Thanks Guys,

For what ever reason I just assumed that the screw in front of the trigger guard was the 5th screw. I'm not really sure why that stuck in my mind, it's not like I've read it was that way. Somehow I just assumed what the order was I guess. Duh!

VM, I glanced at the add and didn't catch the first line "four screw 28"!

Allen, use the search function and look up "the ultimate Highway Patrolman thread"
Page 1 has some good info. Lots 'O' pictures too.

The 5 screw H.P. was produced from 1953 to 1957. These can be found. Often sellers don't even know what they have.

The 4 screw H.P.s started in late 57 with the deletion of the upper sideplate screw, and ended in 1961-62 with the Mod. 28-2 and the deletion of the triggerguard screw.

The 4 screw N frames have two distinct variations. The non model marked 4 screw guns. And the model marked 4 screw guns.
The non model marked variant being the scarcest of all the modern N frames.

Regards ,,Allen
