Some of you will remember me asking form M36 3" opinions last week, and I got some very good information. And I bought a M36 3" mainly due to the feedback I received. Well, here it is. The "pearls" are not original, but I do have the original stocks. The reason the "pearls" are on it will become clear in the second pic. Thanks again for all the input.

A beautiful gun...both of them. Congratulations on a great purchase. I bought my excellent condition 3" M 36 more than a month ago, but still haven't shot it (shame on me!! :() Schedule is full.

Although I'm compulsive about original stocks, I really like the look of the pearl grips on that gun. Best wishes!

Jim and Tacci, thank you. I probably would have passed on the 3" before the info I received. Glad I didn't pass.

The 3" 36, or chief special, and I go a long way back. My first was carried as a "backup" in Viet Nam. I managed to bring it home after some paperwork and it was promptly stolen from my car by a parking attendent.

Since then I have owned several. A few were (foolishly) sold and at this late date I still carry a 36.

Classic S&W design DA, reasonably accurate, and it just feels right.

Congratulations! The 3" Chief Special is, to me, just about perfect.

Thanks WB5MHA, not just for the back ground on your M36 3", but for your service to our country. I did not get to carry a M36 in country, but that is another story.

I've been looking at a blued M36-1 for a few weeks in a gunshop display case & finally bought it this morning. What confused me was the adjustable rear sight, which the GS owner initially said was an aftermarket installation.

I took it over to a S&W armorer across town & he confirmed that the adjustable rear sight was factory done & that the purple/plum finish on the barrel was most likely factory finish, as evidenced by the lack of any buffing/rounding of the stamped lettering.

It's nice to see other 3"-ers out there, since I was having difficulty even finding one on-line.

bronco45, actually one is a Pre-Model 30 3", but thank you for the kind words.

Nice Catch!

jcsw,
I must have seen the same feedback that you did, because a
Mod. 36 3" is here with me now. Must have gotten it at about the same time. They sure are nice shooters, and with the BKGripAdapter, it
handles really well for me. TACC1

The only fault was that the hammer was blued.

We need to see pictures of that jewel! Please start a new thread, it sounds like an uncommon M36-1. I recently posted a 30-1 with factory adj. sights added after market.

Wow, some great looking M36 3" Smiths are showing up. I shot mine to day, without the "pearl" grips, and what a great little shooter. Had a little issue in the beginning, losing the target, but worked that out. Enjoyed my time at the range.

I really like mine not a big fan of those peral grips I like the dimond wood grips

Here it is. I had been looking at it for a few weeks in the counter at a local gun shop & was unable to find another just like it anywhere - until I began posting about it here & on Gunboards.com

It's good to see there are others like it!

Just finished with the grips this afternoon- the old, yellow flaking varnish had left enough exposed wood, that there was some ground-in crud that needed removal.
