M4 Carbine Handgaurd on M&P 15-22 - Parts/Tools List

what do you guys think the m4 handguard or the magpul carbine handguard? and if so the magpul do you install it the same way?

So I purchased Tacticool22's free float barrel nut adapter, my question is - do I need to also purchase a standard AR barrel nut to interface with his adapter or does Jody's adapter take care of the entire solution?

I've been a little unclear about how the barrel nut adapter and delta ring interface together onto the barrel.

You need the delta ring assembly and all the front sight stuff.
The adapter takes the place of the factory 15-22 barrel nut. It has the same outside threads as an AR upper, so anything that will screw onto an AR should work on the adapter.
Tighten the adapter, with the larger threaded diameter towards the upper and the smaller non threaded diameter towards the muzzle. Tighten it to "spec" then screw on your delta ring assembly or free float hand guard. Tighten to "spec" again.
If you have a free float hand guard, your done.
If you are doing a standard two piece hand guard continue with Bretts great instructions.

The M4 vs MOE question is one you'll have to answer for yourself. I like the Magpul better and moved my gas block forward so I could mount a mid-length MOE handguard on mine. The MOE is more expensive than the M4 handguards, but offers more flexibility if you want to add rails. It has provisions for mounting rails at 12, 2, 6 and 10 o'clock. If you choose to go the M4 route, let me know. I'v got a set of M4 handguards I'll let you have.

what holds the front of the magpul handguard on? is it still the front handguard cap?

Yes, the handguard cap holds the front of the MOE handguard. The barrel hole in the handguard cap will be sized for a .750 AR barrel and will flop about like a fish. I put a screw through the cap and into the gas tube hole in my gas block. Now, the handguard is rock solid. My gas block is aluminum, so I just drove the screw into the hole. If you use a steel gas block or front sight, you might have to tap the gas tube hole. Here is mine with the carbine length handguard. Now, it's sporting a mid-length (about 2 inches longer) MOE handguard.

Shawn,

That's a fine looking 15-22 right there!

Thanks, Brett. It looks even better with the mid-length handguard on it. I'll get some pictures up tomorrow. Today, I'm at work until 6.

I'd love to get a CASV-EL, too. Sometimes, you can find them for around $160 on AR15.com.

Hey all, just got finished converting the handguard on my 15-22 to a carbine style and everything was a success. I wanted to share a pic of it and shout out an extra special thanks to Brett248vista, JPGrips, Tacticool22 and QuadCam for all of thier shared knowledge and custom parts and tools.

Without you guys I would not have been able to do this and I am sincerely appreciative for all your assistance and I'll forver be singing your praises!

That is perfect. Great job. Thanks for the kind words and for doing such a good job.

Without your super-awesome tools I cold have done non of it, thank you for making such superior Amercian products to help us all. I'll be back to Tacticool22.com very soon.

I think I may need a faux-pressor for this baby.

The only thing missing now is a PainterlyShotGroup Ejection Port Cover and a Hogue Grip... Just saying :P

I was just thinking that it looks like something is missing. After seeing your video on it Brett, I need one. So that is the next project.

Hopefully my wife wont notice "another damn part?" box being delivered.
