Just received the new to me Shorty 40 (thanks @Dino44 for the heads-up). I'm more than pleased with this acquisition as I bought it unseen. The pistol included box, end label, two mags and all the documents, including the Lew Horton flyer! It looks to have been a safe queen most of it's life, no significant handling marks and was very dry. Lubed it up and it's still as tight as it was when new.

These are sweet shooting pistols. You will enjoy it

The pistol that you have pictured is a Shorty 40 from the original series. There were at least three runs of these done for Lew Horton all SKU 170011

The SKU of the MK-II Shorty 40s was 170060

The MK-IIs are easily identifiable by the blued magazine release

In case you do not already know, your Shorty 40 was manufactured on October 18th of 1993

It might have been mentioned here before but I didn’t retain that difference. I’ll remember now. It also appears that the MK-II’s had a longer grip tang more like the Shorty 45 and all Recons.

Jim
Very interesting observation - I had totally missed those distinctions and had relied only on the different S/N prefixes PCS = original Shorty40; SPC = Shorty40 Mk2; KPC = Shorty40 Mk3 (and of course blue + adj sight + logo); PCW = Shorty40 Mk3S (Silver); DSF = Shorty40 2000.

All great pistols

My first .40 was a first year Shorty 40 (serial PCS0059) and my first Performance Center gun. My records show I purchased it in Sept 1992.

Was a great little pistol, but I ended up giving it to a nephew for doing some construction work.

Miss that gun... :(

Good for you Trey! When I saw it in the store, I was told it was gun and one magazine only. That is really cool that the box and contents were also present.
Thanks Dean! To sweeten the deal even further, Cabela's discounted it an additional 10%, for being a club member. I think they're offering the discount and 12 month no -interest on club card purchases through Dec. 24th.

Another observation noted when comparing the original Shorty40 & Shorty9 to the MkIII, the Mark III is fitted with the ambidextrous safety lever.

Congrats on your find! :)

The labels usually fall off of those boxes & get lost.

I can't tell, is yours loose & sitting on the foam in the picture?

Is your box like mine below?

I'd love to see a better/close-up of that Lew Horton flyer if you could?

Congrats on your find! :)

Thanks Bluedot37, mine did come in the same blue box and label is loose inside. Here's are some closeups on the Lew Horton flyer.

Interesting. I’ve got a PCS Shorty 40 that has a silver colored trigger like in the Lew Horton ad. Your trigger appears to be blue.

I’ll have to check my mag release. The one in the ad appears to be blue.

My end of the middle run, (#919,) of Shorty 40’s has a silver trigger, hammer and mag release/button but I can change stuff around. 🤡 Trey’s, (#1272,) is from the last/third run so that “might” explain the difference. (?)

It’s shameful that the rest of the excellent mk3 was destroyed. Even the grip that came with the parts/rebuild kit is pristine.

I found a picture of my Shorty 40. I picked it up along with the 3914 in the picture as a group buy some years ago. Both were and still are unfired. It's got a silver trigger and Mag release, and blue slide stop, safety and trigger. As mentioned before, PCS SN. I'm not sure what version of the Shorty 40 it is:

I know I sound like the weirdo in the group, not commenting on the pistol (youse guys have handled it) but I wanted to say that this box was my absolute FAVORITE of all the Performance Center boxes/cases, and yes, I definitely include the aluminum case when I say that.

These are scarce compared to all the others and they are tough as nails. I wish they had stuck to this exact box.

I definitely agree — the one strike against this box was that no end label could stay attached to one. God bless the few that managed to keep the end label even after it separated from the box.
