I got my M41 over 30 years ago and never had a problem with it and have fired close to 10,000 rounds through it. Last week I was at the range shooting cci standard velocity ammo( only thing I shoot) and felt the last shoot sounded funny. I looked and saw a case neck sticking out the side. I thought it may have been a light load and grabed the slide to eject the spent case but the slide would not come back. It moved only about a quarter of a inch and jamed up. I removed the mag. and with a lot of force finaly got the slid to come back and lock. I released the slide and it now moved back and forth like it should. I feared that there might be something in the barrel so I removed the barrel and it was clear. I could not get the barrel to lock back down, at this point I left the range. At home I inspected the gun and found that the lower end of the feed ramp had a small gouge in it leaving a burr. I took a jewlers file and removed the raised burr on the lower flat side and then I could install the barrel back onto the gun. I hand cycled some rounds through the gun and next day went to the range and fired about 20 rounds through the gun with no problem. I called S&W and was told that I should send the gun in for inspection but there would be no warr. because the age of the gun. Questions. Should I send the gun back or just keep firing it and see if the problem comes back. I know I have shot it alot, is this a indication that it should be rebuilt, new barrel and slide and what ever or is it time to get a new M41. Love this gun and would hate to lose it. Thanks for any suggestions.

I don't think that I would worry about it. You found the problem and corrected it. Not sure what customer service is going to do for you at this point. Clean and lubricate it well. I would continue to shoot and enjoy the gun and if the problem comes back, deal with it then.:D

I don't have a clue about what caused your problem, but I can guarantee that your M41 is not worn out after a mere 10,000 rounds! I'd probably shoot another 10,000 rounds through it just to be sure the problem is cleared up. If it happens again, I would let S&W sort it out. Also, you have a better M41 than one fresh out of the factory IMHO.

If the problem is solved, it's solved. I lost count of how many rounds I've put through mine, but I know it is well over 15,000 so far. Since that was my first gun and could not afford another ones for a year or so after I purchased it 35 years ago, it got QUITE HEAVILY USED! If it's working without a hitch I see no real purpose to send it back.

I took the gun to the range yesterday and fired about 100 rounds with no problems. Thanks for the help.
