Just picked up my new M60-2, NY-1 bought via "Classifieds." (Thanks, again, Demkofour!)

We made the deal a bit ago but it took some time for shipping and the waiting period prescribed here in Maryland. It was well worth the wait!

This gun is absolutely pristine and is just like the one I carried off duty for 14 years. Sold that one...don't ask me why...stupid decision.

Cannot wait to get a few rounds down range with this one. Question, please, re: that. I did carry/fire +P ammo in my original piece. Nary a problem but didn't know better at the time. Are there any negative effects when shooting +P ammo?

This will be replacing my 642 for most CCW purposes, and I usually carry Federal Self Defense ammo but do want to know...just in case I consider repeating my previous use of +P.

Thank you!

Be safe.

PS:

If anyone has a set of Spegels for the 60 please let me know...didn't realize (yes, should have) that the ones on the 642 wouldn't fit.

Hello-

The factory doesn't warrant M-60's under -4 for Plus P ammo, but many have reported firing it without ill effects.

I'd use it in moderation, being concerned about cylinder endshake developing too soon if used a lot with Plus P.

Personally, I'd limit it to 100 rounds of Plus P a year, preferably less.

Why didn't you ask this question before buying the gun? You could have learned which M-60's are sanctioned for Plus P use. Even in those, I don't shoot it all the time. No need, and it does wear the gun sooner.

I hope that you enjoy the new gun.

Your Model 60 NY is truly a great collector's item. You may, however, want to study the problems S&W had with the Model 60 NY guns before making it your carry gun.

Extensive discussions are on this forum. Look up Model 60 NY or maybe Robert Vivas, who wrote some of the material.

See this for a start:

Thanks, guys, for the feedback.

Will follow through with the recommendations.

Be safe.
