M60 Birth Date

While I was updating my firearm inventory list, I noticed that I had never put in its date of manufacture. S/N is AFS0741. Can someone please help? Many thanks in advance, Al.

Welcome back to the Forum! According to the "SCSW 5th Ed.", your Model 60 was manufactured in 1985. It should probably be marked as a Model 60-1 (check the model no. in the cylinder yoke recess with the cylinder open). You didn't mention the barrel length, but there was a special run of 2" bbl. 60-1s released in 1985 with an adjustable rear sight for Ashland Shooter Supply. Pictures would certainly help if you could post a couple. Enjoy!

It won't be a Chiefs Special Target Model 60-1. There were about 5,000 of those, and the serial numbers we know of begin AIV, ALA, ALU, & ANB.

I'd bet yours is a plain-Jane Model 60 with a 2" barrel and round butt. Others in the database with AFS serial numbers are from 1985.

1942-1945 is what my book says for that Victory model.
.38/200 and .38 Special Victory Models 1942-1945 V1-V811119 And also those numbered with an “SV” prefix
