M629 What-iz-it?

The local Gander Mtn has what looks like a 2 1/2" model 629 that appears to have Hogue grips, unfluted cylinder with bear tracks etched around it, Magnaports and fiber optic front sight. I dimly remember seeing one of these advertised years ago.

What is it? and about how much is it worth? I couldn't get near the counter to ask to look as they were lined up two deep yesterday buying guns.

I believe you describing what was called "the backpacker". As to the value, it depends on condition and whether the box is included. There are a couple of these on GB for sale. I think these were a limited run for Talo. The price could be between $650 and $800 depending. Other more informed members will comment shortly.
