Does anyone have a M63 .22lr with a .22mag cylinder? Are the mag. cylinders available anywhere? I'm thinking of aquiring one for my 63 no-dash. Please show pics if you can. Thanks in advance.
I dont think I have seen a 63 with the extra cyl but it would not surprise me. I have had a 651 Mag with a LR extra cylinder. Depending on the LR or mag bore size S&W used, you can probably find an extra 63 cyl and have it reamed out to chamber the mag round. The bore actually is not a big deal, if you read up on Ruger 22 mag revolvers in the past they have had .216, .219, .221 and have fired mags through all of these bore sizes.
I don't think they will make a magnum cylinder for your 63. You want to look for a Model 651 which is a J frame 22 magnum. Many of these .22 magnum revolvers have .22 LR cylinders included. And they will make a cylinder for a 651 as well.
The bore diameter is smaller on the Model 63 than on a Model 651. The factory would not ship or sell a 22 magnum cylinder for a Model 63. The best thing to do is to find a Model 651 with the 22LR aux cylinder or buy a Model 651 and find a 22LR aux cylinder to go with it. Below is a picture of (2) Model 651's both a 2 inch and 4 inch gun which came from the factory with 22LR aux cylinders. I had special ordered both guns when they first came out with both cylinders.

Several years ago master gunsmith Austin Belhert passed away and his daughter sold off all his gun parts on eBay... I was lucky enough to score two brand new 650/651 cylinders.
Sold one to friend and Forum member RGS and kept the other for my self. RGS had the Magnum cylinder installed in his 63 several years ago. I have a 63 no- that I had an old school S&W mechanic install the cylinder in last summer...both guns work great.
Very accurate with both cylinders and no pressure signs at all when using the Magnum...
..and yes, it is correct that S&W wil no longer add cylinders. They stopped the year after the Model 63 and 651 were discontinued.... I know because I bought a 651 and called the factory to have the extra cylinder done and was told that they had stopped that service about 6 months before I called.
Superman. I have a pin barrel model 63, made around 1980, I think. Are you stating that I can use a 22 mag cylinder from either a model650 or 651? That would sure be nice. I bought this one new around 1980, had it stolen and many years later got it recovered. A mag cylender would be nice. Any idea where i could find the mag cylinder? Thanks.
