M66 with Short Barrel

There's some good lookers here. I did make a commitment today to buy this one pending all the pertinent info from them. It has some Herrett grips I'll no doubt change out but I'm not sure what would feel/look best. Maybe even the smaller magna grips shown in one of the photos with the filler(can't think of what it's called...Tucker?) or some Ahrends. There's a wide selection no doubt. Maybe some Pearl handles...

If you heart and mind are set on a stainless K-frame I think the 3" M65 or M64 are better choices. YMMV!

Most beautiful. It would a favorite of mine. I've never had a short barrel before(under 4") in a revolver other than my ol' SP101. I tried all in vain to find a 3" 686 or 65 in good condition but have had little to no success and then I ran across this M66 and decided I'd best jump on it. I don't think I made a bad decision.

These are some good looking grips from Altamont but I'm not sure your little finger wouldn't need to go under the butt.

Got myself a 66-1 2.5" today. One thing I noticed while inpectng the gun is that the front right side of the under has some material machined off. I notice the cut on some the pictures shown in this thread too. Please let me know whether this a factory defect or by design.

If you're talking about the tapering of the front to the underlug under the barrel -- that's the way they came from the factory.

Yeah, just on the right side. I never thought about it much, though it does leave the symmetry a bit wanting. I suppose that makes your question a good one.

I love my K frame snubs..... carry one or the other of these every day...
66-3 wearing Ahrens and my 19-4 wearing...? IMHO you cannot beat the K frames as a carry revolver.

According to Fjestad the 66's in great shape like you're talking about are worth $595 plus 10% for the 2 1/2" barrel.
For $575 I'd jump on it.

Not bad for a thread that just resurrected after four years. Just as relevant as ever, though. Here is my 66 no dash that I was issued in the 1970s, and carried when I was assigned to plainclothes duties.




and here is the holster that I usually carried it in. I was able to buy both this 2 1/2 " and my issue 4" 66 no dash for what Glock was offering for trade in when my department went to semi autos in the 1990s.



The only thing missing is that I always used a plain aluminum Tyler "T" grip, which I still have, but borrowed for another revolver. I can say that these make fine carry revolvers, having carried this one for many years. Accuracy is great, and it disappears in a pancake style holster like this one from Bianchi. I have a lot of handguns, but this and my 4" 66 are ones that I will never part with, partly because of sentimental reasons, but partly because they are excellent firearms.

I still have the Glock that I was issued as well, it was presented to me when I retired. It's not very photogenic, though, so I won't post it here.

I have 98 recorded prices for this model gun from $423 to $1095 over a period of 4 Yrs 4 Mos ending April 2, 2016. The average price as of that date was $700. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $614.

Yes!! C&L, those are beautiful stag grips!!! I love the look. I have the same model, and an aluminum T grip, I can't help but envision how my no dash would look dressed up in a set of those. I have kept the walnut issue grips on mine out of nostalgia, as that is how I carried it working in police work. But I could still keep them, and dress the old girl up in a set of those stags!!!

If you don't mind sharing, where did you get those beautiful grips??? I have an early model 60 that I used to carry off duty that would look pretty nifty also..... Oh boy. Here I go.
