Model 66 forcing cone

Are you sure that a previous owner didn't simply have a nickel 4", wanted a 2.5", and all he could get was a 66 barrel? That's a lot more likely than a cracked forcing cone!

Well, that's the first cracked 66 I have heard about. But trust me, the 19-5 is the one that fails most often.

Some advice to all K frame magnum revolver owners. Quit worrying about your K frame cracking a forcing cone or wearing out a barrel. Sure if a person shoots a lot of 110 to 125 gr high velocity ammo and does not clean their revolvers this could happen. But the vast majority of us don't shoot enough of this round to damage the K frame magnum. As many on this forum as said, stay with 140 to 158 gr rounds clean your K frame magnum and don't worry.

Howard

Okay. I haven't seen that many of them so can't say which failed more often.

It does seem kind of odd if one of the reasons the L-frames were introduced in 1980 was because the K-frames couldn't handle a steady diet of .357 Magnums that the 19-5s (1982) were the ones most prone to failure.
But, when did they start teaching practice with what you carry?
