I have met a lot of different people since I have joined this forum and most seem to have an appreciation for all kinds of guns, I was just curious if anyone owns any transferable machine guns or suppressors? I bought my first transferable M-16 about 6 years ago and fired it quite a bit the first year, but since then it has been cleaned and put up in the safe. I also have 2 suppressors that have been a blast to own, perfect for plinking on a Sunday afternoon! The funny thing is my wife doesn't even know I have a MG, if she did I'm sure it would of been sold a long time ago...ha ha.

I've never owned a machine gun, but I'm endlessly fascinated by them. I'm currently reading Chinn's five volume set, "The Machine Gun". I read "Small Arms Review" religiously. I shot a few when I was in the Army.

I'll never own one because I refuse to deal with the BATFE and with the ban on new civilian guns, the prices are insane.

Machine guns are fun, but to be perfectly honest the coolest thing about having a machine gun is being able to chime in on your buddies conversation about full auto weapons and say, "yea, I got one"....ha. As I get older I don't even do that anymore, its not worth the 20 questions that usually follow...such as, "aren't those things illegal"? "Don't you have to have a class 3 to own them"? "can you help me convert mine to full auto"?.....I guess my M-16 is more of an investment these days than anything else. I did have an older gentleman over to my house once who was chronicly ill with cancer and not expected to live too much longer and ironicly he mentioned that one thing he had never done was shot a full auto gun and that he doubted he would get that opportunity.....He had no idea I owned one and I made that old man's wish come true, he died a few months later. Sofar to date, thats my fondest memory of the MG next to the day when I was able to take it home after the 9 month wait.

While I do not own any class 3 guns, I have had and continue to have the opportunity to handle and shoot a large variety thru the friendship with a class 3 dealer/mfg. Once you have shot them, the "thrill" of firing MG's is somewhat lost and if I could {I can't because of living in IL.} I would be most interested in owning the Classics , Thompson,BAR, etc. Like my interest in S&W's, the old ones interest me more than the new.

Hi:
In another era I owned a German MP38 9mm, a US M-2 Carbine .30cal, and a US M-3 .45acp. I shot all three a great deal with military surplus ammo. Fast forward to the present era and I have an issue Colt M-16 .223 which I let the young Officers use more than me.
I would like to have a Browning M1918 Water-Cooled .30 and a Lewis Gun .30. A Thompson M1928 .45acp and a US BAR .30 would be nice also.

I don't own any because of all of the paperwork hassle. I don't really need one tho because I still get to shoot plenty of them in the National Guard.

I got in class 3's back in 2001. my first which I still have is a Ingram MAC 10 in 45 acp with a supressor. I have also had and sold an UZI, and a Costa Mesa Armalite AR 18 which was in competion with the M16 back in the 60's. All have been fun to shoot, But I get a kick out of watching someone who has never shot a full auto take a turn at pulling the trigger. To see the smile on their faces is awesome!

I've got a few. I seem to gravitate to the extremes: subguns, belt feeds and my favorites, the DD's. No automatic rifles at this time.

My avatar is real. 25mm Puteaux anti-tank gun. Live and fully functional. I even reload for it!

I mostly shoot them at large format, weekend events like The Big Sandy, RMFCSA at Cheyenne Wells and Knob Creek.

I have been to Cheyenne Wells, and SP Crater in Flagstaff, AZ before they moved to Big Sandy.

I've got a mess of them, from a select fire 10/22 to a 75mm pack howitzer and everything in between.

sjmjax, I am sure some of us would like to see more photos! Steave could also give us a peek at that 75mm.

You deal with the ATF everytime you fill out a 4473 to purchase a Title I firearm.

There's a lot of misconception regarding Title II goodies. If you form a Trust, there is hardly any paperwork. You fill out a Form 4 and send in the $200 and wait. About four months right now. You can make your own short barrel rifle or shotgun too. Just fill out a Form 1 and send in your money.

I now own a full auto MP5 PDW, M16A2, Uzi, Thompson, two Mac-10s and a Ma Deuce. I've got three short barrel rifles, a short barrel shotgun and a few Destructive Devices.

The first gun shop I worked at was a class 3 dealer. That was in the pre-85 days when you could buy dealer samples cheap. My favorite was a M1-A Thompson. Heck at that time the gun was cheaper than the tax stamp ($150 for the gun). I will say after a couple thousand rounds the magic does kinda die.
On the other hand I love suppressors and plan on adding a few in the next few months.

I will say I do have a F/A fire control group for my M-4 just in case.

Yeah, with a trust you don't have to get local LEO sign off for a class III. There are other benefits, but I can't recall them at this time.

I enjoy shooting full auto stuff but unfortunately it is much cheaper to rent than buy. I attend the occasional full auto shoot and you can rent them down at my local gun shop to shoot on the range.

A few years ago a buddy was selling an MP5SD for a very fair price. I really wanted it but even if I sold every gun I owned at the time it wasn't enough to put half down. :(

When my best friend and I were at IOBC in '80, we were thinking about getting MAC10s. Back then they were less than the price of the transfer tax, something like $90 versus $200.

It's just as well I didn't. It would have been a nightmare when I moved back to Chicago to go to law school.

I had an AR15 that I had converted to full auto back in the early 80's, but I sold it and really regret doing so. I do have two suppressors, both for .22 caliber. One was done on the Form 4 with LEO signature & fingerprints, and the 2nd one was done on a trust, so no signature or fingerprints were required. I bought and used Quicken Willmaker to form my trust and had no problem whatsoever, except for the 4 month wait. One is a GemTech Outback II and the other is a Tactical Innovations Quest.

Four years in the Marines did the same thing with me. I learned that semi-auto can do more, cheaper, with better accuracy. I'd prefer semi auto variants of the classics than full any day of the week.

No argument when it comes to accurate, aimed fire. That said, there is just something *wrong* about a semi-auto belt gun.
