Had a fun day at the range today, but noticed my 62 year old eyes are fading on me a bit. I can shoot just fine with the adjustable sights on a S&W Model 15, which are great sights. I’m also fine with the “big and wide” fixed sights on a later model 10 S&W heavy barrel and a 1960s made Colt Agent 2” barrel. But not so good with the “knife blade” half-moon fixed sights on a little S&W Regulation Police .32 with 4” barrel, or with a Colt Pocket Positive 2.5”.

What machine work would be involved in cutting a larger fixed sight channel for the rear? And maybe widening the front sight? And/or putting a ramped profile on the half moon front? What dimensions are specified? Cost?

Surely this kind of work has been routinely done in the past. I don’t need to go whole hog and try to retro-fit adjustable sights if it is possible to just make these older, overly thin fixed sights more user friendly.

Tips and suggestions welcome.

I had one of those tiny NAA 22’s, filed the half-moon front into a ramp, easy.

Widening is another story. You might look into adding a glue-on Big Dot and filing the rear channel into a half-round notch.

Before you modify the gun permanently, you may want to consider trying some contrasting, brightly colored nail polish on the front and rear sights to make them more visible.
