Tried my hand at a charging handle today. i wanted to have it usable for lefty folks as well as right hand. started to make 2 levers, then went more simple. put one of those super hifh power magnets in it so that it will hold closed if the steel iron sights are on it. i will take it to the range this weekend and put a few K rounds to see what it does.

im not real familar with the oversized handles, i may have made it too big, need input.

Like what you have done. Looks well thought out. Like the small details. Especially like the ambidextrous component. Looking forward to range report.

Looks cool. I think the size would be a preferential detail, as long as it's not too big to us well. I personally like the size because you could easily manipulate it with gloves on and I like to camp in the snow with my husky.

One critique: I think a release of some sort would still be a need of mine. Again, just a personal preference.

Beings I am a " go to the gun range" shooter. The release is only to keep it from sliding back when shooting or in its case. In an outdoor camping/hunting environment how much does it get snagged, and how much does the lever help.

Looks good, I have been wanting an aluminum charging handle for a while. IMO, it's a little big, I would think the "bat wings" should be a little smaller. I suppose it depends on what YOU plan to do with the rifle. If all you are doing is bench shooting you might be ok. I would still put a latch on it or you run the risk of the charging handle coming back and smackin ya in the grill.(you know, your teeth).

With all that being said, awesome work my friend.

Thanks for the inputs. It was just something I wanted to try out. We already have a charging handle pro on here anyway. I need to start working on my stock adaptor idea. That's what I really want to change. And if I can get a spare upper I want to try making one without charging handle, and put a side charging handle on it. But that is down the road a way.

Over-sized handles catch on everything. This far out weighs any perceived convenience.

Don't know yet, this is what I've made so far. What can be made? Anything I guess, so long as its legal.

That looks great! Best one I've seen for the 15-22 so far!

I don't know that I like the magnet thing though.

I was more trying to help out the leftys. I've got one close to finish that has a lever on both sides. The right side lever just actuates the left where the clip is.
