Well heres the rundown of how I got my carry permit and how I lost it for a short period of time.
I got my certificate for my class in May. On May 9th I went to the Sheriffs office to send it to the kentucky state police. I wrote two checks. One to the sheriff and one to KSP. Two days later the sheriffs check cleared the bank. I got married this past March. At the end of May me and my wife joined our bank accounts. Her car loan and college loan is set up to auto withdraw and I do not have any of that so I put all of my money into her account and closed mine.

Now this was my fault because I did not pay attention to see if the KSP check cleared. In June i recieved my permit to carry. On Augest 13th I recieved a notice in the mail from the KSP saying my permit is suspended due to a lack of funds. The noticed was dated Augest 4th. It also stated that I had 2 days to surrender my permit or I would be charged with a Class A misdemeanor. I was very nervous due to the fact I didnt get it till the 13th which is over 2 days late.

The next day I went to the Sheriffs office to surrender my permit and try to figure this out. Come to find out, the KSP took 3 months to post my check from when i wrote it and almost 2 months after they gave me my permit. I didnt get in any trouble but I do have to pay a 25 dollar fine on top of the amount of the first check i wrote and they wanted a cashier check. Seems to me they would have made sure the money was good before giving out the permit. I do admit it was my fault for not paying attention but they should not take 3 months to post a check while giving out the product before posting the check.

Sorry to hear about the extra cost and issue it cost you but on a better note Sounds as though the state of Kentucky is not in as bad a shape as other states.

And our sherriff's department requires postal money orders, which are better than cash because you get a copy for your records.
