I've been looking for casual wear boots. That "China" label is on every piece of footwear I've looked at including the "high end" stuff. It's sickening and I won't buy them. I think Frye is still US made. Any others to steer me to? Catalog and online is tough, got 12W's, and it's a pain to not try on what I want. Hate returning stuff. Rant off..........

Would you feel any better to know $400 "Prada" leather sandals are made in Pakistan?

No, but I thank you for responding.

If you're willing to spend some money, go to a custom boot maker. Here in Washington we've got Whites, Nick's boot's, custom made in Spokane. You've probably got some bootmakers in your country too, but be prepared to pay. They're worth it though!!!

Don't forget Roper style cowboy boots for casual. There are plenty of US manufacturers left, including Tony Lama, Justin, Nocona and a few others.

Like was said earlier, it is hard to beat a pair of White's boots out of Spokane.

I wear Red Wing boots made right here in the US of A. Some of their boots are China, but a lot of them are still made here where they should be. The China shoes don't fit me worth a darn.

For several years I happily wore Wolverine work boots--the high, tan, waterproof ones. Last pair I bought was after they moved production to China. The lace hooks would bend if you looked at them cross-eyed or pushed on them with your thumb. They eventually started breaking off from getting bent and pried back too many times. I called Wolverine and complained, but the bimbo I spoke with was clueless. I switched to another brand of boots. If they have to make them in China I wish the heck they would at least make sure they function.

Another rant-- I needed to buy a 10 foot fibergass stepladder and Home Cheapo had their Husky brand ones for a decent price. I saw they were made in China and, good citizen that I am, decided to pay 50 bucks more to get a made-in-USA Werner. Looked at the Werners and guess what? Now made in Mexico. Grrr.

+1 I wear redwings also. I spoke with the factory rep about a month ago. He told me that all the boots with a welt are made here in the states. The boots with poured on soles are made in china. I am not sure about the Irish setter line since they broke off into their own brand.

+1 Red Wing

I bought a pair of US made Redwings last year and they are OK. New Redwings are nothing like older ones. They have given up too much for the sake of reducing production costs.

I got a pair of White's last fall and they are worth the money. American pride and workmanship at its best.

Justin ropers are now made in Mexico (Warren Buffet bought Justin) and like Redwings are nothing like they used to be. I got lucky and found a pair of old stock US made while the getting was good.

As noted coracoran and matterhorn are a good value, probably better than Redwing now.

Chinese boots are like cheap tires, they are annoying until they wear out. Which is soon, but not soon enough.

These look good and cheaper than White's:

These US made boots are priced pretty well:

Merril, you never cease to amaze me. The other day I wondered if Russel was still in business. The Gustins and Fabricius' lived on my block and went to my church (Union Church at Huron and Church). Thanks for the link.

To the OP, have you looked at Danner Boots. Many are U.S. made and they have very good customers service. They are seriously good footwear.

Stuff made in china must be good. Why, they send it half way around the world to get here!

Well, I recently bought RedHead shoes from Bass Pro, seems like they are made in China, too - but they feel and fit just right.
I´d rather buy US made, but it all comes down to fit, feel and last, but not least: price.
