Nice Smith's you have there, you should have the cylinder thoats on your 629 checked for size. Mine were .428" to .429" and would not pass a factory .430" bullet.

I do not follow you? I chambered each cylinder with a factory 240gr round. Are you talking about the recessed part or the end of the cylinder where it enters the bore?
Why would it be different?

No, the throat of the cylinder is the front of the cylinder where the bullet comes out and goes into the barrel. On my blue steel 29's the throats measure .432" to .433" and my 629 measures .428"-.429" which is too small for my cast .431" diameter bullets to pass through without sizing down. I have read that the stainless smiths are bad about undersize cylinder throats. I have two stainle smith cylinders off getting reamed larger at the cylindersmith right now. If your cylinder throats are too small then the bullet could be undersized when it enters the bore and in the case of lead bullets could cause leading as you want the lead bullet to be .001" or more over the barrel groove diameter when it enters the barrel.

I have not noticed any problems shooting my 629. I would hope that Smith bored it correctly. Can't I just measure them with calipers?
