Made the switch to MAC

Used PCs at work. Bought an iPad in 2011 when going into the hospital for a coupla weeks. Retired in 2012 and briefly used my son's old PC for consulting work, but have since moved entirely to the iPad for everything. Use an external keyboard for writing reports, invoices and such.

The wife was still bugging me to debug her PC all the time, so bought her a MacAir for Xmas. No more computer problems for the wife. Briefly tried using a 2011 Mac Powerbook that my son discarded after upgrading to a bigger, newer version for college, and it is a nice, painless machine, but... I just don't need it.

For what I use a computer for, iPad does it all.:)

Mac or Linux only here in this house. Had Mac's since the 128 K original. Hate PC's and now don't have to work with them at all. Tend to buy a new one every 3-6 years, mostly because I need more power for some of the stuff I do on contract.

Ditched all MS SW too, now go with LibreOffice or Open Office and much happier. I hated debugging word all the time!

Started with the gateway drug, iphone and when my old laptop died AGAIN and I had to reload ALL the drivers for Windows AGAIN I took the plunge and went for a 15" Macbook Pro with Retina display. WOW, it just works and works and starts up in a few seconds, and you can run all the MS products if you like. And you can see the display outside in the sun.

of the tablets, I have to give it up for the Ipad.
splended little machine, capable of high end audio work and most gear for such work is Ipad or Iphone only.
too bad Android dropped that ball.

PC's ... yeah .. they are just about dead due to windoze 8, and the market might not be patient enough for the wait for a stable win9
its rather unfortunate that Linux keeps getting stuck in geek oriented circles. if it could stop making two steps toward technical complication for each step toward universal perfection, there'd be no windows and the mac would be scared to death

A word of caution to those out there who may be considering opening the door into the world of Mac.

I was a happy and frugal PC user for many years until my wife insisted on buying a MacBook Pro. I did my best to talk her out of it, explaining that a new Dell laptop will do nicely at half the price. It goes without saying I lost that debate. Anyway... she was thrilled and seemed to be doing more with it than she had feared to tread with her old Dell. After a couple weeks my curiosity got the best of me and I started playing with it. BIG MISTAKE. For me ignorance was bliss. After four years we still have the MacBookPro running like new, 27' iMac, two iPad, three Apple TV and have bought a total of five iPhones. Be careful.

I think I'm the third owner of it, but this Powermac G5 is over 10 years old(mid-2003 model, February 2014 production) and still kicks butt in photoshop and as a general purpose computer on my reloading bench.

Enough reloading data is available on the internet these days that I'd hate to not have a computer on my reloading bench-this one works great for that, aside from also being a very capable computer for other purposes.

And, as I said, it is in fact 10 years old!

Another quick story...

I have a good friend who is a bionformatician/computer scientist. He's also my gun shopping and range buddy, and is a member here.

When I bought my first Mac two years ago, he gave me no end of grief. 6 months ago, he texted me out of the clear blue to tell me that he'd bought a Mac-in his case a fully loaded 13" Retina MBP. Although he dual-boots with Ubuntu and OSX, I think he's a definite convert and I couldn't be happier :)
