Was curious if anyone had a change in reliability when swapping out their mags base plate with another one like Pearce?

I have the Pearce baseplates as well as the NDZ ones. I like the look of the Pearce better but they are a little too long. NDZ baseplates feel perfect in my hand but look weird.

I feel that I am more accurate with my baseplates as compared to the standard (non-extended) mag.

I use Taylor Freelance and Speed Shooter Specialties baseplates. Both have not had any problems. I use the stock springs on the SSS +0 plates and aftermarket springs on my TF +5 and +10 plates.

OK, cool. Never heard or read of any issues but wanted to be sure. Looking at the Pearce for my shield.

I put the NDZ plates on my 7-round shield mags. Good function, no negative impact to concealability, and I think they look just fine.

Didn't realize you guys were talking about Shield's, don't know anything about them. (you need to put "Shield" somewhere in the OP title or question ;)). Disregard my previous post. :D

No worries. I was asking in general but looking for one for my shield.

I have the pearce extensions on mine. Got them for $18.00 free shipping on Amazon for 2 of them. Was gonna get the NDZ's but at $16-18 a piece the Pearce were way cheaper.

Just got the Pearce base plate for the 7 round Shied mag 2 days ago. I have XL hands and that little bit more of grip feels perfect, like holding the 8 round mag with the xgrip extension.
Very nice upgrade and still keeps the 7 round mag more concealable than the 8.

Put Pearce on my Shield, works like a charm. To me it looks, and feels more like an extension of the gun than an add on.

New shooter here, would ya'll mind a dumb question?

Why would you want a different baseplate on a magazine?

I'm assuming we are talking about the small rectangular piece that slides under the bottom of the mag to keep the mag spring captured?

These base plates add a small extension that some people find helpful, particularly for varying hand sizes, to better stabilize their grip.

There are at least three reasons that I can think of:
1. To extend the grip.
2. To add additional capacity.
3. To customize the look of your gun or to mark the magazine to make ID of loads positive.

I have a Pearce grip extender on my 7 round and the 8 round was fine as it is. It gives my pinkie something to rest on.

Not dumb at all.

Good list posted above as a follow-up to your question.

I do it to give me a better grip (pinky), yet still maintain the low profile of the 7 round mag for concealability.

The length and thickness of the end of your grip/mag well area tends to be a critical dimension in regards to concealing comfortably.
