Mag differences

Does anyone know if the top section of the 10 round full sized mag and 10 round compact mag are the same? If the floorplate was changed could you turn a full size into a compact?

I got an answer from Greg Cote, and figured that I would pass it on here even though not many people seemed interested in my question...he says no, they are different, that is the top section of the 10 round full sized mag and the top section of the 10 round compact mag, so just changing the baseplate would not make a compact out of a FS.

I didn't doubt that the two magazines are different, but I wondered what made them different. So, I pulled out one of each and eyeballed them.

If I were to remove the floor plates from both a California Approved 10 rounder and my .40c you could immediately see that the compact magazine has a flange that folds outward on the left and right side of the tube that the 10 rounder has a flange that fold inward. Plus, there's that funky step in the side of the 10 rounder at the bottom of the tube.

This means that the floor plates won't interchange.

I live in MA and have both a full size and compact M&P9's with 10 round mags, extra foot plates for the compact. The mag tube is the same. The only difference is the foot plate. I change two out the full size footplates when I just want to shoot the compact.

Here is the floorplate that makes it work. I got two of them this week and they turn both fulls sized 10 rounds mags into compact mags.
