Mag safety removed by previous owner? Mag safety spring broken?

Re-read the post. The OP has the opposite problem.
It has the "billboard" on the slide, but still has a mag. disconnect.
It shouldn't have the disconnect if it has the warning on the slide.

Nomenclature

The correct name for the feature is a magazine disconnect.

Is it a brand new gun?

I'd bet that someone at the factory simply installed the wrong slide onto the frame.
There's probably some lucky guy with no magazine disconnect that doesn't have the hideous warning printed on the slide.

If you bought it specifically because you didn't want the disconnect, I'd send the frame back to the factory and have them remove it.
You could do it yourself, but if they corrected their error, it shouldn't affect your warranty.

As far as I know, there is no difference between the slides other than the warning label.

It is a brand new gun and I am planning on just removing it myself since it has the writing on the slide s@w won't know I removed it because it's not supposed to be there anyway

Good luck removing the magazine safety because if that's written on the slide that means it ain't got one to remove...

What you think is the magazine safety is probably something else entirely.

Try this...with the gun unloaded and magazine removed, rack the slide and press the trigger...if it goes "click" then there's no magazine safety - just like the slide says...

You will need a different spring there if you remove that part. The spring that is used with the magazine safety (yes, that is what S&W calls it on their website) has fewer coils and two "legs" and will not work with the mag safety out.

BTW, what is the SKU on that gun's box? That would show how it was intended to be configured when it left the factory.

An easier way would be to read the slide...

I guess you have way more faith in that than I do. I have seen M&Ps before that had writing and mag safety, no writing and no mag safety, wrong SKU on box, SN on box that didn't match SN on gun, etc. Stuff happens!

Thanks for the brilliant idea poster dullh but since I pulled the trigger with the magazine removed to field strip the gun and has dead trigger until you insert mag I think I'm pretty sure what I think is a mag disconnect is actually just that
