Dumb question? But here goes, I just acquired 2k Large Rifle Magnum #250 old CCI primers, in the red & white boxes. I load for 38-55, 32-40, 30-06, 25-06, 30-30, etc. Can magnum primers be used in standard rifle loads that call for large rifle primers? Does quicker primer time equel higher pressure or just more reliable ignition?

Sincer you asked a general question, the best I can do is give you a general answer.
Whenever you change major components in a load, you need to reduce and start over developing the load. The difference in pressure from going to a magnum primer may be small or large, depending on other factors, like powder used and loading density.

The magnum rifle primers are hotter with a larger and more sustained flame in order to properly ignite large charges of slow burning powder."When all else is equal",the magnum primer will produce somewhat higher pressure when used with the same(otherwise components).

That being the case, you should reduce the charge somewhat and work up which you should always do when changing any components anyway. With that safe practice applied, you should be just fine.

Incidently, the CCI 250 is not the hottest of the magnum rifle primers. It is slightly hotter than the Remington. The hottest are actually the Winchester mag and Federal 215.
