i have an old 1917ish .32 handejector.

i see that Mag-tech offers a 98gr. SJHP in .32S&W.

in all seriousness, will this load be too much for this old gun?

thanks.

It does not look that hot to me. I'd rather they pushed a lead, SWC that fast than a JHP. Unless that is a real thin jacket that JHP will likely act like a FMJ or RN bullet at those speeds.

thats what i thought based on their listed velocities....figuring from a 4" bbl.

i just want a better than target load for the just in case.....

the finish is a brownish purple and faded a bit but has no pitting or rust....i figure it doesnt have any collector value since im not a collector...im going to send my gun to S&W when i get the money up and have it bright nickled (since they dont do chrome), put a pair of pink J frame rubber grips on it and give it to my daughter as her first handgun.... (she is 7 so this wont be hers til shes older but she can shoot it with my supervision until then...)

I'm not sure S&W will work on a revolver of that vintage any more. I had a 4" S&W 31-1 that my daughter liked.I say "had" because she now considered it her revolver. This revolver has no finish left and I tried to do a cold blue job, with mediocre results. My plan is to strip the bluing off and Parkerize it.

While I would not recommend it for your particular revolver she keep Winchester 32 ACP Silver Tips in it for house use. Our normal load is 2.5gns of BE under a Lee 90gn TL SWC bullet lubed with liquid alox. I'd have to check my records to see what the OAL is because off hand I do not remember. OAL, or more correctly headspace above powder charge, gets very important in these small cases. It chronographs a little under 850 fps.

yeah, i havent thought of that....S&W may not be able to do anything for this gun being that its pre heat treated era so any process they do would ruin it....i think....

i have some cold bluing liquid that use as touch up on my 4" model 13 woods gun.....might give that a try if S&W advises they they cant do anything for me...
