I need help with two items:

1. I thought there was a thread about the Battery Assist Device and the mod needed to get to work - if someone could post a link or the real title I'd appreciate it; I couldn't find it with a search.

2. Does anyone know if the outer dimensions of the magazine well are similar to an AR? I want to try and mount a redi-mag (which I'd have to buy), and was wondering how much of a mod it may require.

TIA.

Let me see...

You just loaded a new magazine into the rifle with your left hand and can't just slap the receiver (after tapping the magazine) to close the bolt?

Substitution of a fine motor skill (using your index finger) for a gross motor skill is usually ineffective.

I'm sure some folks like them, but I see folks removing these devices about mid morning of good three day carbine courses. ;)

The "BAD" is one of Magpul's theory based products. That's where I picked up the Magpul AFG that I really like. I hadn't noticed Magpul's BAD in that area before. Looks like a great product.

"Developed from the operational experience of the Magpul DynamicsSM team, the B.A.D. Lever (Battery Assist Device) is designed to considerably improve the speed and efficiency of the AR15/M16 bolt catch. The B.A.D. Lever quickly addresses reloading and malfunction clearance shortcomings of AR15/M16 platforms by extending a paddle to the right side of the weapon, allowing manipulation of the bolt stop from the fire control/ready position with the right-hand trigger finger.

Made from milspec-anodized aluminum, the B.A.D. Lever attaches to the standard AR15/M16 bolt release without permanent modification to the weapon. Functional for both left and right-handed shooters, the B.A.D. Lever also allows traditional bolt catch manipulation according to the AR15/M16 manual of arms. All mounting hardware included."

Here's the link for all the info and pics.

Yeah, training's come a long way since we first fielded the original A1s. In some cases it's almost like asking the Marines to give up their 03's for the Garand in WWII. Also not for everyone. Check out the vid:

Skip the BAD lever.. It requires grinding a considerable amount of polymer out of the trigger well at the front where upper radius is in the front of the trigger well. And when I say considerable it's considerable and it's NOT worth grinding your gun to put that lever on.

If you want a larger bolt catch surface there are add on large paddles.

If you use the right technique it's not an issue. I typically rotate the rifle on my shoulder and make sure the chamber is locked back and empty, press the mag release with the trigger finger, switch magazine over (shooting clipped dual mags) rotate the rifle the other direction and slap the bolt catch with my left hand palm, swing back to a cheek weld and shoot.

I ordered a BAD set up for my LMT M4 along with a Gunfighter charging handle. I'm going to run some different drills to see how I like them as the idea of working the bolt with my trigger finger, especially on a double feed, is intriguing. My thought then extended to the 15-22 since training on it is a whole lot cheaper that firing 5.56.
