Bought a Magpul MIAD Grip basic for my rifle and am having issues with it. When I go to install the grip there is no place for the rear spring to seat into:confused:. Has anybody else used this type of grip and ran into problems with the springs? Thanks for any help I get.

Ran into it on my houge grip. All I did was use a utility knife to cut a shallow spot for the spring to sit. The spring looks like it provides tension on the disassembly rod.

the large spring closer to the trigger is the safety detent spring, and it should have a small cup in the grip to capture it.

The smaller spring toward the stock is the rear takedown pin spring. It should be able to ride on the top of the grip. My Magpul MOE grip has a slim margin for error, but it works compressing the spring fully into the lower receiver. I would think the MIAD would be similar.

Just make sure to assemble the gun with the grip pointing up. Place the grip in place, hold it, and tighten the screw.

Odd, my hogue had two perfect holes from the springs already.couldn't have been easier.

I think the problem with the Magpul MIAD grip is that it is not a solid piece, it is cut away to allow you to change the grip parts. So where the spring should sit on the grip is just a hollow spot. Guess I will either return it or figure something out.

My CAA grip didn't have two holes for the springs. I lined up the first one and just made sure the second spring stayed upright and was pushed in properly when I installed the grip. Once the grip is install the spring will not move since it will be compressed in place. You can easily just drill a small hole on the grip for the other screw. Probably could even use a knife and just carve out a little material to make the spring stay. I haven't had any issues with mine thus far.

:edit: Didn't notice that Vegas Mike did use a knife already. Easy idea.

I had the same problem. Get some putty type epoxy & make a pad ffor the spring to sit on. I didn't take 5 minutes to epoxy the grip. I waited about an hour & then came back & cleaned it up with the dremel tool. That was all it took to fix it.

You must use the Magpul MIAD grip wedge insert when the MIAD grip is used on the 15-22. This has been said before.

Everything works beautifully and the back straps look far more proper with the $5 wedge installed.

Thanks, put one on order. Thanks for all the inputs.

Sure buddy!

Here's a shot of what it'll look like. :)

Langster, thanks for the photo. I was wondering what the wedge would look like when installed.

Sure dude, Glad I could help.

It's a little tricky to hold the springs, wedge, and grip all in place while you bolt it to the lower receiver, but just take your time and you'll get it all together.

Once the wedge is installed to the MIAD grip (it slides into a rail channel on the grip), the safety lever spring has a small plastic shelf to sit on that ends up being basically part of the top of a polymer molding rib thats within the grip.

Will this also fill the gap that the 15-22 has with a magpul MOE grip? They look almost the same the MOE and MAID with the backstrap. I put a MOE grip on my 15-22 and the gap is very ugly to me. Thanks!

I believe the grip wedge only works with the MIAD grip, but I am not certain.

The same filler / wedge should work the MOE grip. The MOE and MIAD are the same, minus the adjustable straps. I have medium sized hands so I always buy the MOE and save the money since I'll never change the straps out.

Also, the MOE and MIAD grips do not have a holder for the rear takedown pin detent and spring because the grip was designed for the traditional AR where those are located in the rear of the lower and are held in by the buffer assembly / castle plate. Just be careful installing the grip and you'll be fine. The first time I put mine in the spring became a little cramped and would not work correctly.

Wow. I recommend DSG!! Great turn around time on my Magpul order. My MOE grip has 2 relief holes in it from what I could see. Its going on tomorrow. I will try to post a pic of it up before the install.

I had no problems installing the grip. There was a hole for one of the springs. The back of it doesn't totally line up with the rest though. Nothing horrible. I will try to get a pic up later.

Another solution is to thread the hole for the rear spring, and put a set-screw in it (don't forget to cut the spring to adjust for the length of the set screw). That way, you never have to worry about it again, and you can go ahead and use the MIAD grip.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, since this picture is cut off does anyone have a new picture of the wedge? I cut off a 9/64 drill bit to sit in the gap and left a 1/16th of an inch gap for the spring to sit in, fits very snug and seems to be working great but i was wondering if it would be better to just get the wedge for a permanent fix. Thanks.
