Hey guys, I ordered a Magpul MOE stock and installed it on my MP15-22, it went on fine but after the first (furthest) position out the stock is so tight that I almost have to force it towards the bolt or back to the end of the "buffer tube".

Did I get a defective stock?
Is the buffer tube on my MP15-22 mess up?
And did I do any damage after installing it?

Thanks in advance.

can you get it to go all the way forward?

the latch only moves the stop enough to move to the different positions. for installation you have to pull down on that stop post further.

The MOE stock does fit alot tighter then the S&W stock. You do have to use alot more force to move it back and forth.

I did get it to move all the way forward but it was almost getting stuck at every point, not from the lathe sticking but the friction between the stock and the buffer tube.

I got one about a month ago and it is the same way. Mine also has a bit more top to bottom wiggle than I expected from a Magpul too. Nothing a little bit of tape on the tube couldn't cure though.

there are two different versions of butt stocks there is the mil spec version and the civilian version (the buffer tube is a different size) the 15-22 uses the mil spec version. make sure you got the correct version of it as magpul makes them for both sizes.

The commercial spec buffer tube is bigger than the mil-spec. If he had the wrong one, it would be just as loose as the OEM stock.

well I knew they were different sizes just not which was bigger

True the comm-spec buffer is slightly larger than the mil-spec but as for the fit, not true, I accidentally got a comm-spec magpul stock for my 15-22 and it got tighter as I pushed the stock towards the reciever but when I got a mil-spec magpul it fit just fine.

That is interesting because I ordered it from Amazon, listed online as Mil-spec... I thought the Commercial would be looser than a mil-spec but I am seeing that it is tight to start but almost stuck towards the bolt.

Are you sure it is 100% authentic Magpul? Not something that looks like a Magpul

That's exactly what the comm-spec magpul stock that I had did. Im not sure why the comm-spec was sticking like that, you would think it would be looser but it was actually rubbing the plastic off on the buffer the closer you got to the bolt.

Yeah that is what i found as well. The answer the previous posters questions, I believe it is authentic magpul, has the new 2012 literature, stickers etc. But on the box there are two boxes for check marks for commercial and mil spec. Neither are checked... The only thing is that the stock is tight to start front to back and side to side but gets worse and worse toward the bolt. I found the stock was leaving plastic shavings as well and also scratching the buffer tube.
