I think I "need" backup irons on my 15-22. Right now I have a Leupold VX-R 1.25-4 on my rifle.

Looking for fold down. Is Magpul my best bet? Are the PTS ones they sell on eBay junk? Should I stay with the regular ones?

Thanks

Stay away from the cheap magpul on Ebay. From experience, you will get counterfeit junk - not real magpul, not even real PTS magpul. The plastic on the ones I got was so soft it crushed when tightening the mounting screw under normal torque pressures.

Some of the knock off metal ones can be alright (I have some knock off YHM folding sights on my 15-22 that are ok), but stay from the plastic ones!

What do you need them for?

For actual use the Magpul PRO sights are some of the best back up irons ever made.

For looks, nothing wrong with e-bay junk. I actually quite like both sets (PTS and actual knockoff) sights I have. They work for what I need them to do, which is 3-gun matches.

If real steel are too rich, many Airsoft sights are very good quality. My Ares M4 came with a Knights Armament rear sight which works very well, but only has one peep.

None of my Airsoft, Magpul PTS, UTG or knockoff sights change their zero under recoil. The 15-22 doesn't recoil that much.

I think the lightweight plastic MBUS are the perfect compliment to the lightweight plastic 1522.

The MBUS polymer weigh in at 1.2oz for the front and 1.3oz for the rear. 2.5oz total.

The MBUS PRO iron sights weigh 1.51oz and 1.8oz, for a total of 3.3oz. That's a difference of only .7oz.

True the PRO cost double what the MBUS do......

I thought as of last year there were no more Magpul PTS? Magpul ended that association with the Airsoft folks, so now you have Magpul and Magpul Pro only. I guess there may be some old stock laying around, but as others have mentioned, a good percentage of PTS out there is probably fake stuff, on Amazon, eBay, etc.

On the other hand, you really don't need $90 sights on a plinker 15-22, so the cheap PTS Clones would probably be fine, or some of the UTG or similar stuff, as long as you can live with China origin.

Worst case, order a set from Amazon, you can return easily if they turn out to be fake or crappy sights.

I ordered Pro's for my OR, but may do the above for my 15-22.

I bought a set of Chinese knockoffs off eBay for 20.00. They aren't as nice as the genuine magpul ones but they work great hold a reliable zero and look great. I am not at all disappointed in my Chinese junk.

I simply can't justify spending another 100.00 for sights to put on a plinker. Next, I'll spend 100.00 for a replica EOTech.

YMMV

I Have a set of RTS sights I got off ebay for 35 bucks on a Daniel Defense M4V7 556. They hold zero and are fast to go from optics to irons. Differences between them and the expensive surefires are. 6061 vs 7075 and the front post uses a different thread pitch, but can be drilled and re threaded to take a milspec front post.

I will only use the irons if I have to. Right now I'm running a leupold scope. I kind of feel the rifle is incomplete without a scope. I don't want to spend too much, but I don't want junk. Whatever I buy I want it to work when I need it to.
