Mags?

Sorry Miles but that seems to be the question of the hour. Every outlet I've seen is back ordered until 10 minutes after hades freezes over

Yes, most LGSs have them, they are around $500 and come in sets of two and with a free .40FS.

Other than that it's a back order currently being calculated in dog years. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I had to wander the earth to finally get some. I found a guy on guns America who sold me 4 of them. Just gotta keep looking.

Anyone think we should contact MecGar to see what their take is on this? If someone had some real inside info from an employee at S&W higher than a CS rep/tech, then we'd know what's really going on. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow since I get the same answer from every S&W rep.

The answer is that S&W is making products as fast as they can. Do you honestly believe that they're intentionally holding back?

It's a simple truth; the demand has surpassed the supply.

So is Mec Gear the only supplier used by S&W for metal body pistol magazines and these are all produced in Italy?

Yes MecGar is the only supplier to S&W, and yes they are made in Italy. (MecGar also makes a lot of other brand magazines as well as house branded magazines except for S&W, I'm thinking this is due to some contract that they have.)

I don't think they're holding back, but that they're stuffing them in all of the M&Ps going out. Every local shop around me is now overloaded with M&Ps and one has a pallet of Shields. What good does that do if extra mags are nonexistent? I see Shield mags here and there, but it's like they're only focusing on that particular model and the super high demand for them is gone.

They're not having a hard time getting mags, they're letting the demand for people looking for extra mags grow more and more each day. All the mags for every other firearm that were nonexistent during the scarce can now be found everywhere...except the M&P and especially the 9mm. I can go buy 100 MecGar made XDM 19rd 9mm mags, 10,15,17,33 round Glock mags, MecGar made Beretta mags, any pistol mag and rifle mags galore. Pick a popular gun, I can find the mags for it online or locally except for the M&P 9mm.

I'm giving S&W until the end of the year to get some mags out in large quantities or I'll have to sell mine off. It's not a bold statement or pout, but mags are consumable items to me since I shoot my guns quite often and if they go down and are no longer serviceable, I need to be able to have a place to buy more. Right now I have 4 FS9 17rd. mags and 4 12rd. for my 9c. I don't even shoot them because of the mag problem.

I actually bought 3 ProMags for it that I find to be out of spec. They take a hard push to seat as-is and if I put all S&W factory internals and base pad (square hole) on the ProMag body, it dosn't seat at all. If S&W gets out some mags that don't get gobbled up by gougers, I'll dump the ProMags cheap

Really no reason for it since every other company dosn't seem to have a problem. Again, I'm sure it's not intentional, but someone is making some bad decisions on where the mags are going.

NYPD recently switching to M&Ps probably doesn't help. NYPD has approximately 35,000 sworn officers on payroll. If each one is issued an M&P with 3 mags, that's around 105,000 mags that need to be manufactured. That's one agency's order. That's insane.

Well then, I just gotta ask, how many mags do you need? I've got over 6,000 rounds through one gun and I haven't needed to replace a mag yet. I mean, you're not shooting for fear of not finding another mag? Really?

Complete RUMOR but my LGS guy was telling me that he heard S&W is going to release a huge amount of mags in or around August.

Who knows though. I'm not buying ProMags.

I hope that is true, because I switched from Glock to M&Ps and not being able to find mags is the one thing that has pissed me off. Luckily I did find a few before the panic started, but they've been damn scarce. I had a chance to buy some at $50 a piece, but that's just stupid.

Lack of mags is making me consider switching back, despite really liking the platform. In uncertain times like this with the current political climate, S&W and MecGar need to get their sh!t together and pump some mags out!

My mags hit the deck more often than not. I'm not gentle with firearms I train with more often and the M&P was supposed to be that gun and can still be if the mag situation is resolved. I've read the Promags base plates easily break which by looking at them, I don't doubt it. Dropping them to the ground would most likely turn them into trash in no time since the S&W basepads don't allow them to lock into the grip at all. Beating up on four measly factory mags with no replacements in sight is not something I want to do. Better to wait it out and recoup my money on minty mags for another platform if S&W/MecGar dosn't come through.

It's not how many mags I need, it's the ability to buy replacements when necessary.

Right now, my XDM is my main 9mm since mags for those are all over the place and easily replaceable, but hopefully that changes soon and I can get back to the M&P platform.

That would be great. I hope "huge amount" means tens of thousands nationwide at a minimum. It would be the only thing to counter the gougers that are taking advantage of the situation.
