mailing Once fired brass to NY?

Are you from NY? How about having some one who knows answer it and not just speculate. They are totally anti gun and yet people in NY do own legal firearms and actual live ammo.

I have spent most of the last 3 years in NY .
My "take" on NY laws are anti gun anything.
Once again this only my observation.
If someone wants to mail spent brass to NY, go ahead , I don't care.
Good luck.

Can I legally mail once fired pistol brass to an individual in NY state? Google wasn't helpful so appreciate any links. Thanks...

Question was "can I LEGALLY...." Not what is your "observation"

If it makes sense to prohibit certain individuals from possessing ammunition it follows that the possession of ammunition components should be prohibited as well.

However, it would be a real bum deal to face a felony rap in a place like Massachusetts because I lawfully went to the range outside of Massachusetts sometime in the past and someone else's spent case ejected and ended up in my pant cuff. I can count and keep track of my spent cases, usually six at time :) , but it's a real trick to keep track of everyone's else's.

1: That definition of a shell casing as ammunition is nationwide federal law, not just in Massachusetts.

2: Fortunately, violations of law generally include the term "knowingly and/or intentionally . . . "

This is like the response I get when I say I live in Illinois. If you say you live in Illinois everybody thinks it's the same as Chicago. It's not. Not even close.

I lived in Texas for a long time and I was surprised to find "Downstate" Illinois every bit, and maybe more, conservative than Texas.

I've mailed myself brass several times when I've gone to a range out of town (not going to try and take it on a plane). It almost always gets opened and inspected, as I put the brass back in the original cartons and I'm sure it looks like ammo on an x-ray. I think it gets flagged because the return address is the same as the shipping address.

As for NY State I think I'd listen to the guys that live there.

Evidently a wise man visiting MA (an oxymoron?) would do well to have cuff-less and pocket-less trousers.
And don't wear a hoodie! :D I'm always digging spent brass out of that damn hood after a trip to my indoor range! :p

Let's see..... mailing once fired brass to NY by a private individual to another private individual. Me...it would have been done already but that is NOT a legal opinion. If you want to feel better-pack them in coffee grounds and vacuum seal them to thwart the dogs and you should be fine.

And then the recipient gets free coffee included in the deal. Bonus!

Why isn't everybody already doing this?

:D

I'm no expert in these matters but isn't spent brass nothing more than scrap metal? Without primer, powder or bullet it's pretty much just brass I would think.

You can buy loading supplies online. You can't buy ammo.

Midway etc will NOT ship ammo to an individual in NY you can have ammo shipped to a ammo dealer who can sell it/give it to you with a service fee.

Geeeeeesh.... 41 postings and thousands of words when a simple "yes" answers the question.

God bless the Net!!! :D

At the risk of incurring the Wrath of the Moderators, a simple yes is de jure the wrong approach. Cunningham's Law applies: "The best way to get the right answer on the Internet is not to ask a question; it's to post the wrong answer."

Can you get it.....

Can you get it deprimed? It would be one less reason to make a fuss. Not that I think this is a big deal, but I really think it best in such day and times to stay as invisible as possible.
