They actively enforce gun ban in PH here too, but I know a couple individuals who live in them here, who are former military, and they ignore the stupid ban.

In the incident which inspired this particular piece of legislation, the shooter shot at someone leaving his apartment. The guy supposedly had broken in looking for pain killers.

Like I figured, my post was misunderstood. Anyway, I fully support Maine and their decision to support having weaponry at these govt ran places.

That kind of opens up another can of legal worms.
In our state you have to be confronted with deadly force or be afraid for your life (or another's).
If it's on your own property and the "perp" is armed the rules are slightly relaxed but shooting someone in the back is never gonna fly as I read things.
Luckily we now have a shall issue CCW and even a sort of campus carry (the grounds but not the buildings).
There is work being done for a full campus carry but as expected resistance is high from the ivory tower.

I had forgotten the unarmed part. I really thought some prosecutor was going to hang the gentleman out to dry. But it all worked out ok for him, thankfully.
